🎼 While we're on Broadway: a retelling that feels as fresh and topical but perfectly, wholly, inevitably classic as Hadestown. Also very much looking for retellings/riffs on folklore and legend that decolonize and reclaim magic from white patriarchy (think LEGENDBORN) #MSWL

YOUNG ADULT:
--QTPOC romance with banter, emotionally complex, flawed characters, and ✨ intersectionality ✨
--High-concept speculative fiction examining current issues (esp horror & magical realism)
--Sweeping historical fiction about untold movements, events, or individuals

Mystery/adventure such as Da Vinci Code/ National Treasure. The Holiday but make it a book. Fairy tale retelling. Magical realism. 🌟✍️⭐️

In speculative fiction (light sci-fi, horror, fantasy), I need worlds that I can settle into easily.

Fresh takes on classic tropes, dynamic characters, unique magic systems, atmospheric writing & undeniably high stakes ✨Think: R.F. Kuang, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Rory Power

The Owl House is, and will probably always be, my god tier of children’s media. The found family. The humor. The magic and demonic world building. The middle grade storytelling that is actually universal and so smart and witty. The humor and heart. The rep. All of it. #mswl

I love all fiction, with a soft spot for magical realism (think 100 YEARS, of course!). Lit fic, spec fic, and sci-fi are also high on my list. Fantasy like BLACK LEOPARD. Psych fiction that slowly unravels, like RED PILL. And not always, but sometimes, a great love story.

A YA fantasy with original, compelling worldbuilding – think RF Kuang, Tomi Adeyemi or Ciannon Smart. I want magic and danger and hearts-in-mouths, but above all I want it to feel new #MSWL

The top three things I'd love to see more of in my query inbox, in no particular order 📚 #MSWL

1. Romance of any subgenre, especially if it's queer or polyamorous
2. Contemporary fantasy with unique magic systems and lore
3. Gothic horror, particularly from marginalized voices

And women's fiction/romance with magical realism or a speculative twist, like You Were There Too and In Five Years.
