For #YA, I'd love to see more psychological #thrillers, #mysteries, #light atmospheric horror. Give me a YA Girl, Interrupted, please. I'd also love to see more #BIPOC and #queer stories that lead with joy here - #romance, #romcoms.
tasneem motala ♡ @seraphecdajust got off a call with a lovely editor and now need to know: do y'all got any romance novels? please query me with your bipoc romances~!
so to jump off of this tweet, here's a thread of a few things I love seeing in YA romance~! #MSWL
ChristAHH HeschkEEK! @ChristaHeschkeJust wanted to share some #MSWL updates as we're heading into the end of the year!
First and foremost, across all categories & genres, @DanieleDHunter and I are looking to uplift BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, neurodiverse, and disabled/chronically ill experiences (though we would not force an author to publicly share their identity if they aren't comfortable doing so).
i'm a sucker for: boarding school stories (the soapier the better); stories that take place over 24 hours; generational family stories; & stories that put BIPOC in places where we don't often get to see them (like boarding school, on vacation, the world of ballet, etc) #mswl
for disney-hyperion, give me ALL THE TROPES (seriously all of them) but make them feel ✨new✨ again
i want stories where BIPOC to take center stage when it comes to all the fake dating, graduation night, only one bed, epic road trip, one last summer, joy-filled tropes #mswl
im ALWAYS looking for ✨contemporary✨ stories that center BIPOC & lead w joy!!!!
for RRP i'd love stories w an emphasis on intersectionality, deeply tied to culture & identity--bonus points for stories that play with magic/supernatural/mythology in fresh, exciting ways #mswl
...but one thing i do accept is that theres much more i can do to work towards a better world for BIPOC creators & young readers.
authors of color are writing some of the most incredible books right now, & i can't wait to see even more of them in my inbox! now onto my #mswl ☺️
...& my fear of turning off agents is why i've hesitated until now to state this outright. but publishing is broken, & that inequity disproportionately affects authors of color. so i'm doing what i can to work towards a more equitable system for BIPOC creators...
first, i want to say that my lists at both RRP/disney-hyperion are focused on 📚 from BIPOC creators that center BIPOC voices--& these are the only stories i'll be acquiring. i'm very conscious of the fact that some may see this as me drawing an unfair line in the sand...
Tiffany Shelton (she/her) 🧛🏾♀️ @TiffanyDiahannGIVE ME HISTORICAL FICTION THAT DOES NOT ERASE BLACK PEOPLE OR ANY POC.
I will continue to say that Belle is one of my favorite movies (and yes I did read the nonfic book), and I want fiction like it.
I feel like I'm just going to constantly retweet this until I find what I'm looking for in historical fiction. Even open to a gothic horror novel with BIPOC set in the 18th and 19th centuries. #MSWL
And here’s some specific #MSWL items:
- Contemporary MG in the vein of Corey Ann Haydu and Tae Keller
- YA romcoms
- MG and YA graphic novels, especially from BIPOC author-illustrators
- Native voices, especially from the Pacific Northwest or Inland Northwest
#MSWL BIPOC-led #MH #DIS and #ND rep and particularly writing that isn't *about* these things but embraces how they affect the way we live our lives. E.g. a romcom lead who also happens to be dealing with PTSD, a thriller lead whose ADHD might inform the way they work...
Today is my first day at wiley business! Here's what I'm looking to acquire: business & leadership with crossover into self-improvement, personal finance, & memoir, particularly focused on underrepresented perspectives, & bipoc, lgbtq, neurodivergent voices! #mswl
Adria Goetz @adriamgoetzSince I’m now back open to queries, I’d love to share a bit more about what types of projects I’m currently looking for. Buckle up for a #MSWL thread. 💜
In the PB space, I have 3 top priorities:
1. Stories by BIPOC creators in general, particularly family narratives. I love falling in love with a new fictional family!
2. Humor! I need a good laugh. Kids do, too.
3. MAGIC! Send me magical stories!!! ✨
Putting this out in the world: I love big “look books” like this & I would love to do one by a BIPOC illustrator focusing on a BIPOC community. If you’re such an illustrator & you love character, scenes, & details, hit me up! #mswl
Eric Weiskott @ericweiskottthere are Green Knight reviews and then there’s this pic.twitter.com/ytCqFev2yv
Lauren Spieller @laurenspiellerI’m opening to queries in 3 hours (technically).
I have a full wishlist (see pinned tweet), but here’s one thing I’d LOVE to see:
