I can't look at #MoodPitch today 😞 but I'm going to list a couple random #mswl wants I've been thinking abt lately:
🍩 contemp sff in the vein of LIGHT FROM UNCOMMON STARS: gorgeous, moving, queer, making magic out of the ordinary
🌜 a ferocious, heart pounding love story
1/3
In Middle Grade, I'd love to see:
⚽️Fantasy inspired by myths, folklore, or legends
⚽️Historical that centers POC stories
⚽️Contemporary with an environmental bent
⚽️Horror with ghosts, creepy crawlies, and witches
⚽️Growing up in non-traditional settings
⚽️Earth-based sci-fi

On the contemporary side, I like MG narratives that have a lot of heart and deal with meaningful topics (think FROM THE DESK OF ZOE WASHINGTON and FRONT DESK). I also love MG stories that deal with all the stomach-swooping and awkwardness of that first crush.

On the fantasy side, I still tend toward contemporary fantasy -- especially because of the potential for goofy MG shenanigans -- however I'm more open to higher fantasy in MG.
Some of my faves: AMARI AND THE NIGHT BROTHERS; GHOST SQUAD.

MG
I tend toward upper MG, and love fantasy and contemporary narratives, but voice is the most important element for me in this age category. I want funny/quirky/snarky MG voices, something really strong that hooks you in immediately.

While I love a good contemporary fantasy (whether lighter/funnier or darker/creepier) I am not usually the right person for YA high fantasy. You can still query me with your high fantasy stories, but it's likely it won't be for me as my interests are so limited here.

I am pretty picky with my YA spec fic interests, and it's sort of an "I'll know it when I see it" situation. That being said, I tend toward contemporary fantasy, horror, and/or relatively grounded narratives that feature some kind of speculative twist (i.e.: CEMETERY BOYS).

I also really enjoy a powerful, character-driven YA contemporary. I love friendship stories, niche skills/competitions, and deep emotions.
I do not tend to be the right person for stories that center eating disorders, however.

Here it is! The #MSWL thread!
The broadest strokes are that I'm looking for Adult romance; YA romcoms, contemporary, and the odd spec fic; and MG contemporary and fantasy. Specifics below.

Really seeking artists as well in the YA and adult SFFH & memoir & contemporary space. I love the elegant look of LAURA DEAN KEEPS BREAKING UP WITH ME as well as the cartoonish realism of TWELFTH GRADE NIGHT.

#MSWL @greyhausagency is actively looking for single title Women's Fiction, and Contemporary Romance. If you want to write category/series, make sure to research those lines and be clear in your query why your story fits the specific line.

Professional Mermaids.
Show me other contemporary settings that are not always the everyday I am exposed to. #MSWL

"I want unique, genre-blending romance novels. I wish I had worked on THE PLUS ONE by Sarah Archer or any of Roselle Lim’s breathtaking romantic contemporary fantasy novels. Give me an adult rom com in space, or with magic."

YA/NA #MSWL: I am looking for a horror from a BIPOC writer that can be comp’d to The Hacienda/Mexican Gothic/She Is a Haunting/Bad Witch Burning. And YA contemporary fantasies from BIPOC writers who are also interested in writing MG.
