I love this thread on #ownvoices and the power of fantasy/speculative! Definitely what’s on my #MSWL, especially for teen!

When I reopen to queries in Jan., my wishlist is going to look different than it does now. In adult fic, I am really going to want to see upmarket fiction & book club fiction, literary fic, rom-coms, mystery, domestic & psychological thrillers, horror, & grounded speculative fic.

let’s unpack why teenage girls ask the same questions academics do in more accessible terms and get dragged through the mud#mswl — this is everything I want in YA speculative fiction
also, perfect place to plug @ockaur’s forthcoming YA SF novel, RISE OF THE RED HAND, whose teen heroine asks alllll the uncomfortable questions about power and inequality—often with her fists 😉

All of which to say - I may do a *short* open subs window in January, but I will assess my workload this side of Christmas and make a decision then. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and I hope it helps to have transparency on the process twitter.com/elladkahn/stat…Excited to say I'll be open to submissions again from 4th Jan - 28th Feb 2021! "I loved THE DREAMERS by Karen Thompson Walker. Send me more spec fiction, even better if it has an environmental angle. Adult, YA, and graphic novels welcome!” @readbystephanie #MSWL psliterary.com/submissions/

And last on the list, we are on the hunt for some lightly speculative novels. Think BLACK MIRROR in book form – something that shows us our world, but with a twist.

Just came out of a #SirensAtHome discussion about queer SFF, and I would love to see more queer spec fic where the main relationship is a friendship #MSWL

Author, editor, and art director L. D. Lewis (@ellethevillain) encourages writers to look beyond the Western-influenced literary canon and toward new ways of structuring speculative fiction civilizations in "Radical Fiction or 'Are We There Yet?'": buff.ly/2CpS48II love this, and I would love to see stories like L. describes. #MSWL
