selfishly expanding this into a #mswl for adult SFF that hits that Dead Like Me sweet spot of charming sardonic & reserved w/a deep undercurrent of heartbreak & stunning empathy that will break into the main storyline without warning. high concept but make it lump in your throat

Correction #2: Middle Grade: Humor--if you can make me laugh, I'll sign you up. Literary: I've never had a Newbery-winning client and I want one. Adventure stories, grounded fantasy (but not epic fantasy), sci-fi. #ownvoices for sure. Artists, MG graphic novels! #MSWL

When I open up for queries again (Springtime?), I am desperate for some more YA SFF genre blending novels, with the kind of expert world building I've seen in @RantingOwl @heidiheilig and @SanguMandanna's books. #MSWL

OPEN TO ADULT QS. #MSWL - Adult Sci Fi that tricks my perception of the main character in a rich and unexpected environment. Think PLANETFALL by Emma Newman.

#MSWL (But give characters free will. Dodge chosen one trope. Wring drama out of character's CHOICE to do dangerous, sacrificial things, & dangle alternatives in tantalizing ways. Show them clinging to the right thing deliberately even when all signs point away.)

OPEN TO ADULT QS. #MSWL - I want SFF with adult women in all stages of life. Or men who refuse to compromise themselves for appearances sake. Give me pregnant heroines, menopausal heroines, women late in life GETTING SHIT DONE like they do!

OPEN TO ADULT QS. #MSWL - Adult SFF with rich romantic layering. Give me complexity and stakes laced between both the romance and the fantasy conflict. Show me how magic and love work in tandem. Show me passion across galaxies. Light me on fire.

OPEN TO ADULT QS. #MSWL - Adult Sci Fi that shows other worlds, new forms of life, dark secrets, and technology that inspires both awe and fear. F up my sense of my place in the universe. I LOOOVE tortured antiheroes with a soft spot. No hard military sci fi.

OPEN TO ADULT QS. #MSWL - Adult SFF - The queerer the better! Sci fi or Fantasy with queerness embedded in culture; SFF that fearlessly reps gender/sexuality spectrum. (I am queer myself and want to see ways cultures could deal with queerness differently from our reality)

#MSWL: YA Sci-Fi's with underrepresented protagonists as well as unexpected antagonists.

Eternal #MSWL! I love a different genre’s story in an SFF setting—especially if the author has cleverly teased out some smart interactions between the two.

I just listened to a story about The Svalbard Global Seed Vault in the Arctic Circle, and now I desperately want to read a SFF that features an intergalactic version of this amazing place. Maybe it’s a heist book?! #mswl
