Fantasy & Sci-Fi: I gravitate towards fantasy that's very much grounded in the real world, and SF that's light on the sci, heavy on the fi. Give me characters I can't let go of with rich world building and a runaway plot. #mswl

I STILL haven’t found my badass Latinx character leading an SFF novel (if you know of any HIT YOUR GIRL UP PLEASE!).#MSWL. It would make me AND the awesome Paola Crespo really happy. 😇

3. A truly epic space opera. Either one with fascinating and unique worldbuilding (think THE STARS ARE LEGION or A DOOR INTO OCEAN) or one that's just plain fun as well as galaxy-spanning (think the Vorkosigan books). #MSWL

A delightful conversation with an editor this morning has reminded me of some things I'd really like to see #MSWL:
1. A prison-abolitionist utopian SF novel. Think THE DISPOSSESSED but specifically about restorative justice.
2. A really good first contact book like THE SPARROW.

Netflix landed the rights after a heated bidding war that attracted many of the major studios bit.ly/2CCkkDeA friendly reminder that if you have a John Henry but SFF, or any other SFF take on American folklore, feel free to drop me a line. #MSWL

Though, I would be open to the right YA SFF along the lines of @sabaatahir or @misterkristoff @AmieKaufman. #MSWL

After Trump’s bizarre statement about exchanging love letters w/ Kim Jong Un, I can’t help thinking it‘d be an interesting SFF novel idea: 2 unstable dictators w/ huge egos inherit world-ending arsenals & a fraught standoff, begin a diplomatic correspondence, & fall in love#MSWL
Ditto for my #MSWL -- make it twisty!

#MSWL: feminist #SFFI don’t mean “strong heroine succeeds in a sexist society.” That exists, and much of it isn’t feminist in a way that reflects the intellectual underpinnings of the concept.
I want “strong heroines work together—intersectionally—to dismantle the patriarchy.”
