And last one for now, but never least, MAGIC -- bring me your untold myths and folklore fiction -- drag the fairies out of the woods and manifest the earth magic. Particularly looking for fantasy that incorporates diversity in culture, race, gender, and ability. #MSWL

For MG fiction, my interests fall heavily on the action-adventure scale, especially stories informed by non-western mythology and folklore. Loud and funny is a better fit than quiet and contemplative. In nonfiction, I love topics that kids—and I—can geek out about.

I'm really craving stories where the setting is the main focus. Very atmospheric and spooky. A sense of place. Or setting's that feel like home. Dripping with culture. If you can make an epic mood board for your book, I want it. #MSWLTo add to that. Boarding schools, haunted houses, creepy forests, swamps, dark caves, hellscapes, small-town adventures, underrepresented cultures, myths, and folklore based on places, clubs, secret societies, organizations. Places and communities that come alive at night. #MSWL

A mix of themes I like to see explored (not all at once!): nature, motherhood, identity, making difficult decisions, travel, myth of meritocracy, feminism, longevity, family, heartbreak, secret histories, individuality, modernism, trust, class, money, race, art, memory. #mswl

Like many of us in these strange times, I’ve been taking comfort in books. And it’s made me think of the kinds of stories I want to champion. Most of this won’t be a surprise, but for what it’s worth, here’s my current #MSWL:
YOUNG ADULT
- high-concept, darkly comic modern fables with literary writing and crossover appeal like THE PISCES or GEEK LOVE
- eerie and atmospheric fantasies inspired by non-Western mythology
- sweet contemporary rom-coms about QPOC main characters
