For MG fiction, my interests fall heavily on the action-adventure scale, especially stories informed by non-western mythology and folklore. Loud and funny is a better fit than quiet and contemplative. In nonfiction, I love topics that kids—and I—can geek out about.

To add to that. Boarding schools, haunted houses, creepy forests, swamps, dark caves, hellscapes, small-town adventures, underrepresented cultures, myths, and folklore based on places, clubs, secret societies, organizations. Places and communities that come alive at night. #MSWL

A mix of themes I like to see explored (not all at once!): nature, motherhood, identity, making difficult decisions, travel, myth of meritocracy, feminism, longevity, family, heartbreak, secret histories, individuality, modernism, trust, class, money, race, art, memory. #mswl

Also really looking for some amazing African mythology and cultural beliefs/customs via contemporary fantasy, historical fantasy, or just plain fantasy. #MSWL Saw one in my box and am saving it to circle back. I’d love more!!!

I’m really itching for some MG manuscripts that take me on an adventure, especially #own ones about non-Western places and cultures. I love mythology and folklore and spooks and puzzles, and I’m a sucker for a snarky narrator. If this is your book, please send my way! #MSWL

However, I would be interested in retellings from classics not often covered. Some examples I’d love to see retold are Picture of Dorian Grey, Jekyll and Hyde, Faust, Korean/East Asian legends and fables, and Mesopotamian myths. #mswl

...and there are so many amazing female figures in mythology (or history) whose stories have been overlooked/untold. I would love to work on a book like CIRCE or THE LOST QUEEN--but maybe moving east for the source of inspiration #MSWL 7/
