ROMEO & JULIET >> STREET LOVE by Walter Dean Myers (RIP, I had to include this one)
There are so many more! You could fill a whole display and then some!
Since we’re here: I’d love to acquire some diverse speculative retellings of classic novels and myths by marginalized writers for @ErewhonBooks!

Ok, so...screw it. This is part #MSWL, part “the Manuscript that got away”. In 2018 someone sent a fantasy ms to one of our associates about a female protag. who was competing against her 4 older brothers to be named her dictator father’s successor (1/3)It had everything I love: an unapologetically ruthless female protag; messy royal family drama; non-Eurocentric inspired mythology. But because I wasn’t an agent at the time, I couldn’t offer rep. I STILL THINK ABOUT IT TO THIS DAY(2/3)

Been slowly making my way through the Rick Riordan presents lineup, and sweet peaches (see what I did there?), these books are so good. I’m very much so looking for an MG action/adventure global mythology standalone or series. VERY MUCH SO. #MSWL

OKAY TWITTER. What's the new YA genre trend going to be? Let's decide now so we can all start drafting our dystopian-vampire-werewolf-super hero-space novellas and get 2020 off to a banging start.I know mythology tends to skew MG, but I’d LOVE to see more global mythology and folklore—especially in genres outside of action/adventure. I know y’all have some spooky folklore ripe for horror. And rom coms with minor deities? Guided journies through loss? Yes. All of it. #MSWL

A couple things I REALLY want to read right now.
Historical YA with no magic, especially if its gothic/southern gothic.
Romantic Comedies, but with a new twist or perspective. Example: diverse backgrounds, gender-bending, or a retelling of Shakespeare/fairtales/myths. #mswl

I hadn't updated my actual #MSWL page since starting the new agency, but I did so today--if you're interested, you can find a more detailed discussion of what I'm looking for in submitted projects this coming year here:

Rick Riordan @camphalfblood
My publisher tells me that after only a year in operation the Rick Riordan Presents imprint has a million books in print. That’s a million #ownvoices stories in the hands of readers & we’re just getting started. Thanks to everyone for your support!rickriordan.com/rick-riordan-p… pic.twitter.com/TAeBVfv8NP
Yessss multicultural mythology all day. #MSWL I would LOVE to see more of these #ownvoices queries.

For whatever reason, I’m really craving some historical MG, YA, and Adult right now. Scotland history and mythology in the Jacobites time, Louis the XIV court intrigue, French Revolution YA, Spanish Civil War, House of Savoy unification of Italy, Russian Revolution, etc.. #MSWL pic.twitter.com/4SMHicEnnJHISTORICAL in YA and Adult! Love some court/palace intrigue, especially if in a more unknown place in literature. (SEE TWEET ATTACHED FOR INFO!) I’m also always looking for my super feminist/independent US historical a la Ruby from Cold Mountain. #MSWL twitter.com/litagentkelly/…

Oooh, and retellings too! Shakespearean, myths, other books, etc. #MSWL

I want Urban Fantasy with myths and legends based far out of the usual commercial scope. Give me South American creatures, the Philippines, Eastern Island, New Zealand. What's the boogeyman there? I want to know! #MSWL

I love a fractured fairy tale! But please surprise me with something new. And while talking about fairy tales and myths, I'd love a MG fantasy with the cultural specificity and the fresh contemporary voice of Sayantani DasGupta's THE SERPENT'S SECRET. #MSWL

Fantasy, but make it fresh: unique settings, unusual formats, underrepresented mythology, magical realism, paranormal (yes, paranormal!). I've seen a lot of queries comping to GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE and MY LADY JANE. Keep 'em coming! #MSWL

Forever and always, more retellings of lesser known mythology, fairy tales, and classical lit. Especially if it blends with an unexpected genre. #MSWL

I'm consistently wishing for more Middle Grade novels in my inbox, especially ones based on myths and traditions from various cultures. I love learning about regional histories, real or not, through stories and lore. #MSWL
