I am enjoying Instagram more than Twitter these days so a reminder you can get my bookish advice over there too: instagram.com/carlywatters/
Today I posted some non fiction #MSWL in my IG stories if you want to tune in!
Emily Lloyd-Jones @em_llojoYou know what I want more of? Casual disability rep. Like, not books about ‘overcoming’ a disability (barf) but just like casts of characters who happen to be disabled. Fantasy books. Sci fi. Romance. All the genres.
Carly Watters @carlywattersWhen our @PSLiterary query inbox opens again for the New Year please send me adult commercial/upmarket novels that are 70-85k. I would love some short and punchy novels. I don't want to read anything over 90k right now. My attention span (& the rest of the world) is SHORT. #mswl
I'm thinking My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite short. #mswl

P.S. Literary Agency @PSLiterary“LGBTQIA+ novel in the vein of ONE DAY (high concept, unique structure, deep and sweeping love story).” @carlywatters #MSWL psliterary.com/submissions/
High on my list!!! #mswl
Dan Price @DanPriceSeattleAmazon: profit up 100%
Walmart: profit up 80%
Target: profit up 80%
Lowe's: profit up 74%
Microsoft, Facebook, Apple, Google: stock at record high
Small businesses: 21% closed; revenue for rest down 30%
We're seeing a monumental wealth transfer from mom & pops to conglomerates.
I posted my #mswl a few places & after I put the call out I’ve had more than a dozen people (women) ask to send me something.
Men simply do not do this.
Women: if you see a call for content and you fit the bill SEND IT.
You do NOT need permission twice.
I'd *LOVE* a book proposal with current research (and research to come) about how Covid is disproportionately affecting women's careers in the short term and long term (as they are statistically more likely to take care the kids and step back). #MSWL
A mix of themes I like to see explored (not all at once!): nature, motherhood, identity, making difficult decisions, travel, myth of meritocracy, feminism, longevity, family, heartbreak, secret histories, individuality, modernism, trust, class, money, race, art, memory. #mswl
