While I'm at it, a quick #MSWL of things I would love to see right now:
- Big-hearted contemporary MG
- MG horror
- A domestic thriller
- YA thriller/horror
- YA/A speculative/light sci-fi (think Black Mirror)
- MG/YA/A with a culinary theme
Meredith Ireland @MeredithIrelandWriters Hotline: how can we help you today?
Me: I have a book deal!!!
Me: ... no seriously
WH: omg, did you announce it on Twitter
Me: not yet
WH: do it!!! pic.twitter.com/LOLsoNZ2Wy
Also, because I know a lot of people think of me for sad, serious YA (and yes, please do keep sending me that!), I also do fun and funny and fluffy, and I would love to see so much more of it, querying writers, please. #MSWL
Would love a YA where a Korean teenager sees her life as a mirror to her favorite Korean soap opera. Grew up watching these with my best friend, and think it could be unique set up. High humor, some romance, a whole lotta' drama, & strong plot. #MSWL
Jordan Coombe @Jordan_CoombeA herd of elephants marched 12 hours to the house of Lawrence Anthony after he died – the man who saved them. They stayed there silent for two days.
Exactly one year after his death, to the day, the herd marched to his house again. It is something that science cannot explain. pic.twitter.com/xWJXJW3vJw
#MSWL MG or YA magical realism exploring elephants’ special connection to death and the afterlife/ghosts/life energy
A couple things I REALLY want to read right now.
Historical YA with no magic, especially if its gothic/southern gothic.
Romantic Comedies, but with a new twist or perspective. Example: diverse backgrounds, gender-bending, or a retelling of Shakespeare/fairtales/myths. #mswl
RL Martin @AuthorRLMartin@Literary_Tara What genres are you seeing a lot of in your inbox, or are wishing you were seeing more of? #askagent
I would love to read a YA contemporary with an incredibly strong friendship, a la Amy and Molly in BOOKSMART. Bonus points if the conflict does NOT stem from romance/love interest complications (between the friends or another character)! #MSWL
If you have a YA project that has a break up scene that could be scored with @TheRocketSummer’s
“Goodbye Waves and Driveways”, send it to me. Man, I love that song. I like to travel back to 2005 now and then in my music. It was my jam then and now. #mswl youtu.be/JCOC8Wb8jiA
Emily Lloyd-Jones @em_llojo[thread about teen girls & YA]
So a few years ago, I was on a panel of booksellers. It was about trying techniques to sell YA to an adult market. And throughout discussions of what we were going to talk about, one thing came up again and again.
