I'll send out some more in-depth #mswl tweets next week, but in the meantime, two things I'd really love to see more of in my inbox are dual timeline narratives and crime / mystery novels, historical or contemporary. Send 'em!

#mswl 2019: anything with a "cool" factor. I love big, cinematic stories or stories that have huge emotional range: books with high emotional intensity and those sentences that slam into the reader and take their breath away. (11/13)

#mswl 2019: Smart middle grade mysteries like THE LONDON EYE MYSTERY or WHEN YOU REACH ME, or with a ghostly bent like Karen Strong's upcoming JUST SOUTH OF HOME. (9/13)

#mswl 2019: literary standalone stories, such as THE THING ABOUT LUCK or COUNTING BY SEVENS, or THE THING ABOUT JELLYFISH (8/13)

#mswl 2019: A great historical mystery with mythology and magic such as SERAFINA AND THE BLACK COAT (7/13)

#mswl 2019: YA Paranormal: I want a big vampire or werewolf book or paranormal series that feels new and different and unlike what we've seen before. And YA SFF unlike anything we've seen before. (5/13)

#mswl 2019: YA thrillers and twisty tales: think ALLEGEDLY, ONE OF US IS LYING, THE DARKEST CORNERS, ALL OF THIS IS TRUE, WE WERE LIARS, etc. (4/13)

#mswl 2019: Sweet, smart YA contemporary love stories: think TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE, WHAT IF IT’S US, SIMON VS., EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU, etc. (3/13)

Here are just SOME of the things on my #mswl in 2019 (but I of course often fall in love with the thing I didn't know I was looking for)... (1/13)#mswl 2019: Smart, hold-no-punches YA contemporary. One of my favorite titles of 2018 was SADIE by Courtney Summers so if you’ve written something like that, yes please! Other favorite recent contemporary YA: Nina LaCour’s WE ARE OKAY, Angie Thomas’s THE HATE U GIVE. (2/13)
In 2019, I want to acquire some awesome books! Check out my #MSWL and see what I'm looking for for @BlinkYABooks! manuscriptwishlist.com/mswl-post/hann…

New year, new (evergreen) #MSWL:
Smash the patriarchy.
Give me men who are gentle, with soft, artistic souls & loved ones to care for
Give me women who are ruthless & sharp-edged w/o being ground to dust for it
Give me NB heroes who are any & all of these, who live their truth

Started the year off by reading Alyson Hagy's SCRIBE, and really loved it. Appalachian folklore, ghost stories, pitch-perfect prose in a short book that doesn't waste any words. Still digesting its beautiful and complex ending. You won't regret the few hours it takes to read it.Honestly liked this one enough to say that if you feel your work is in this vein--and not just on the level of literal subject matter, you'll know what I mean if you read it--I hope you'll send me a query. #MSWL
