Connor Goldsmith @dreamoforgonon@hannahnpbowman @maxgladstone don't forget how centaurs and merfolk aren't classified as people and everyone's like oh that's fine
Re: this thread, if someone wants to write me a fantasy novel about a kid who goes to magic school but realizes the entire structure of the magical world needs to be overthrown, I would be 100% there for that. Bonus points if they have to side with the dark wizards to do it #MSWL
Rena *nobody sees the bones* Rossner @renarossnerI would really really love to find an adult upmarket, literary novel to work on. Something that will make me cry. Bonus points for magical realism. #MSWL
Me too. 😈 #mswl
I’d love to see someone take a modern/contemporary well-loved/well-known story and flip it on its head to a historical. A flipped retelling if you will. Bonus points for some magical realism. #MSWL
Nivia Evans @NiviaEvans#MSWL American Horror Story: Coven...but good. Gothic boarding schools, empowered women, clash of ideals, exploration of how history and culture shapes magic
Oh my god, yes yes YES, I have been wanting this FOREVER.*
(*since I first watched Coven.)
It’s #MSWL day! Agents—I’m desperate to see more #MG in my inbox! Looking for voice-driven contemporary and magical realism like #Rooftoppers and historical like #TheWarThatSavedMyLife and #BostonJane Also open to a fun fantasy—looking for the next #EllaEnchanted!
Top of my #MSWL: women's fiction and romance by/about underrepresented voices. Contemporary. Historical. Contemporary or historical with a magical element. Grounded SF. Romcoms. Happy books. Also, maybe a big, sweeping gothic romance?
Sam Morgan @samroebuck#mswl I will tweet this wish until I finally get it:
Skins meets Harry Potter
Skins, to me, is hyper realistic. It's how teenagers or young adults actually act and see the world. They aren't chosen ones. But what if they could do magic, like in HP? That's the kind of world I want to explore.
Sam Morgan @samroebuck#mswl I want something with magic but with clear/simple rules ala Pushing Daisies or @CurtisCChen's Kangaroo books.
Then I want you to break those rules.
This is all about hooks. I love explaining Pushing Daisies to people. That's such a fun thing to discuss. But I also stories like "prophecy foretold three. But now there's a fourth" Add a delicious hook and then a break and you've got me, well, hooked.
Alexandra Weiss @akaweissHappy #MSWL day! All of the things I’m looking for can be found on jdlit.com (including my submission guidelines), but here are a few things I’m looking for in particular… (thread)
I'm also all about epic, sweeping fantasies. I'd love to see thoughtfully built, fresh-feeling worlds (bonus points if they contain rich magic systems), inhabited by complex characters. And I'm always excited to see fantasy from diverse voices! #MSWL
