MIDDLE GRADE:
- #OwnVoices magical realism, reimagined folk tales, and sweeping, character-driven adventures
- Literary, contemporary stories about tween female friendship and the ins and outs of tweendom (if that’s a word)
MG (young or mature, w/or w/o illustrations, traditional or graphic novels): adventure plots, fantasy drawing from mythologies outside the Western and/or white canon, classics rebooted, LGBTQIA+ fantasy & magic realism, explorations of subcultures, hidden history. #MSWL
Associate Editor @HarperChildrens and @HarperTeen . Loves libraries, live music, and binge watching cooking shows. Taller than you'd expect. Tweets are mine.
Related to heists/con artists! Would love something with White Cat vibes. aka one of the best novels ever. So twisty. So good. Excellent magic system #mswl
#mswl (for agents) I'm looking for magical realism all along the spectrum from THE NIGHT CIRCUS to Helen Oyeyemi. I'm also looking for funny novels with sharp teeth and voicey novels with international settings (beyond UK, though those are of course welcome)
I LOVE Fantasy (Urban, Contemporary, Epic, the whole wazoo). Give me lush worlds, fabulous magic systems, diverse and deep cultures. I'd love to see these also grappling with environmental issues or disability/mental health #MSWL
Literary agent at @ktliterary (closed to queries). I tweet about books and desserts in equal measure. My dog is the best office assistant ever. She/her
Fantasy, but make it fresh: unique settings, unusual formats, underrepresented mythology, magical realism, paranormal (yes, paranormal!). I've seen a lot of queries comping to GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE and MY LADY JANE. Keep 'em coming! #MSWL
#MSWL day is a great day to announce that I'm now ACQUIRING MIDDLE GRADE! What's on my #MG wishlist? Magical realism! Humor! Adventure! Contemporary fantasy!
#MSWL - #YA: I've become so much pickier in terms of genre fiction because I want to see something new. Give me a new twist on court intrigue or "chosen" ones. More contemporary fantasies/magical realism. Retellings of new/different stories.
In #Adult I’d love to see more women’s fiction from underrepresented voices, projects with hints of magic (think The Night Circus), romcoms, historical fiction, and books with strong hooks that would be the perfect read for your next book club #MSWL
In #MG#MSWL I’d love to see: upbeat contemporary, magical realism, fun-filled fantasy adventures, charming mysteries with strong hooks, as well as stories that deal with shifting friend groups, activism, and projects that feature pets (especially dogs!) (3/)
as well as stories that deal w/ navigating sibling relationships (ala I’ll Give You the Sun) light fantasy with new magic systems, stories set in isolated places filled with secrets, unreliable narrators, and as always I would love to see more #ownvoices#YA#MSWL (2/)
Happy #MSWL Day! I am ABOUT to close to queries but in #YA I’d love to see fun historical (think A Gentleman’s Guide), or historical with dashes of magic, contemporary fantasy, southern gothic, projects featuring WITCHES, rom-coms w/ strong hooks (1/)
