"Send me contemporary fiction that gets a little weird, like the virgin birth of SMALL PLEASURES, the animal illness of SHARK HEART, and the eerie horror of OUR WIVES UNDER THE SEA."
#MSWL just dropped 👀 Send me your weirds!
3. Adult fiction. Commercial genre fiction in SFF, horror, thrillers, historical, romance. In general, I tend towards high concept, plot-driven and love a twist! Please trick me.
2. YA fiction. Original fantasy, romantasy, psychological thrillers, dark academia, horror, sci fi & heart-pounding adventure. Worlds to get lost in, characters who have chemistry! Surprises and revelations!
1. MG fiction. Accessible MG across genres, including SFF, horror, adventure and contemporary. Stories with plenty of surprises and a strong message. A voice that really taps in to that 9-12 POV.
Send me contemporary fiction that gets a little weird, like the virgin birth premise of SMALL PLEASURES, the animal illness of SHARK HEART and the eerie horror of OUR WIVES UNDER THE SEA.
I want gothic horror, space horror, psychological horror, folk horror, slasher horror, supernatural horror – scare me!
𝗷𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮 @literaryfeyas usual, @JJBker and I have been nattering about #Yellowjackets in the office, so if any authors have a manuscript that can comp to it (any element tbh: the 90s vibe, the eldritch forest monsters, or haunted, oppressed suburbia) then pls! PLS!!! hit us up!!! #mswl
also if you have a literary dread/horror novel that can comp to the video game DREDGE, I want to see it! creepy lighthouses! cosmic horror! dead loved ones! thank u #mswl
#MSWL: HORROR. Folk horror. New Weird horror. Social horror (what would a queer Get Out look like?). Feminist body horror (hi Titane). Campy &/or character-driven horror (Motherthing 💙). Literary horror (character + theme + scares, ala Paul Tremblay). Eco-horror. Send it all!
"I am always looking for creepy horror stories for middle grade, young adult, or adult readers."
I’m also a super-duper realistic horror fan (Scream and Jaws are two of my favorite all-time movies), so I’m here for contemporary realistic slashers that aren’t too gory, thrillers, and whodunnits (Scream is a whodunnit!!) in #YA #MSWL
for my birthday (yesterday, but it still counts!) i am giving myself the gift of doing something a little bit scary: tweeting out my first ever #MSWL manuscriptwishlist.com/mswl-post/crys…
Mindbending horrors that are mentally scary! Or do you have a comedic horror? I'm here for it!
Horror. Upmarket. Think Victor LaValle’s LONE WOMEN, Stephen Graham Jones’ THE ONLY GOOD INDIANS, and Aly Wilkes’ ALL THE WHITE SPACES. Why? Here’s why. #MSWL 🧵
Jacqui Lipton @Jacqui_LiptonWho wants to jump in next with a #mswl? @LaneHeymont ? (And, authors, remember you can ask any of us questions and feel free to tag any of us you want to answer.)
What am I looking for? Horror, horror, HORROR. Obviously. Also, thriller, suspense, and nonfiction by experts in their fields. So let’s dive in a little more a #MSWL 🧵
🎟️ Speculative futures not set in American cities
💀 Horror you want to hide from while you keep reading, things that make you say “gross”
Maeve MacLysaght, haver of bones @mmmlysaghtNew year, new #MSWL!
I represent BIPOC, Queer, and marginalized creators writing commercial genre fiction across MG, YA, Adult, and Graphic Novel. My particular weaknesses are genre-blending SFF, horror, and anything with murder or making out (ideally both)
2023 #MSWL! As a reminder, I represent BIPOC, queer, & marginalized creators making joy for themselves in SFF & horror for MG, YA, Adult, and Graphic Novel.
My existing MSWL is still a mortifyingly perfect encapsulation of my tastes, but this year I'm looking for even MORE:
10 - Horror and dark fantasy – don’t be afraid to let it get weird. Thinking mushrooms growing out of reanimated rabbits à la T. Kingfisher. Aiming for the more atmospheric side of things than all-out gore.
In YA, I'd love to see:
🌞Thrillers with isolated settings
🌞Horror with gothic and atmospheric vibes
🌞Historical that centers on POC stories
🌞Subversive and dark fantasy
