High concept and YA/Adult mysteries/thrillers, like THE BLONDE DIES FIRST and THE LAST MURDER AT THE END OF THE WORLD.

#YA : again, I’m looking for high concept stories with a strong hook, cozy fantasy with a strong voice and unforgettable characters, unique or fresh take on vampires or the eternal one trope. Cryptids? I want to believe.

As any good fantasy nerd, I love fantasy. In MG and YA, but I am picky nowadays. So it has to feel different. But give me high concept stories. Give me beautiful writing. Give me morally complex characters. #MSWL

I always - always - want to see high concept love stories. Relationship stories that upend tropes, play with time and space or technology, that use the tools of form and coincidence.

Writers of this better place: I’m closing submissions soon but before I do, I’d love some final books to sell! Here’s my #mswl :

High-concept YA - if it includes & addresses untold histories / historically marginalized characters, all the better

YA horror - ALL OF IT

For contemporary stories, I am looking for confident high-concept speculative novels à la Ann Liang. I am very selective in the YA realistic space, and I’m looking for super commercial, funny, and well-plotted.

For adult fiction only (since these genres don't apply to children's): 4. Bookclub/women’s fiction: Voice-driven, high-concept novels across these categories. 5. Romance: Upmarket romance with a great one-line pitch. Happy with spice.

After hanging at the indie bookstore this weekend, it is really apparent i need more comedy picture books. Fun stories. High concept. #MSWL

Settings outside the U.S. tied to big idea, high concept premises with sticky hooks.

High concept, upmarket work that explores family/culture/history à la THE JOY LUCK CLUB.

Specific #MSWL :

Stories that involve managing fame/fortune as an emerging adult (could be ensemble cast as in the protagonist is a member of an idol group) & could involve pace-y elements of suspense/romance. Really looking for high concept, not too introspective stuff.

Specific #MSWL :

High concept, fun New Adult books that can start to branch out the emerging category with material that has tones comparable to Ally Carter, Stephanie Tromly, Jenny Han but with storylines for a New Adult audience.

Specific #MSWL :

Shorter books in the MG space (i.e., 250 pages or less): highly commercial, fun, tightly plotted and accessible to reluctant readers w/high concept premises and standout protagonists, especially w/tones like Stuart Gibbs’, Varian Johnson’s, or Geoff Rodkey’s.

General #MSWL 2:

Select Adult upmarket/literary work that is super high concept and feels fresh and hyper relevant (especially work that explores or intersects family/culture/history à la THE JOY LUCK CLUB).

General #MSWL 1:

Highly accessible, super high concept kids’ books in all age bands (especially with an emphasis on throw-back tones/formats but with *new*, unrelated-to-the-older-work premises).
