What would I like to see? Lots of great MG for starters. Particularly heartfelt, hooky stories by #ownvoices writers & diverse settings. Even better with illustrative component. And high-concept fantasy that feels unique & fresh & characterful. #mswl
Jessica Sinsheimer @jsinsheimGood morning Twitter! It's #MSWL Day! 🎉☕️📚
Today, agents and editors will be tweeting what they wish they had in their inboxes. And we, of course, have surprises for you all day long!
First up! We have a podcast guide to #MSWL for your commute here: soundcloud.com/user-965795498…
Oh, hey #mswl! Let's see: on the YA side, I'm looking for romcoms, ghost stories, clever thrillers, fresh fantasy, and pretty much anything that can fall under the broad and general category of "literary."
3) New Adult SFF
Give me aliens and make that book you've been querying as upper YA New Adult bc you know it is ☝🏽
Let's go, lets go, we have an imprint just for New Adult; let's make this genre take off #mswl
2) f/f historical fiction and fantasy by queer ownvoices authors
Don't even care what time period, apparently I love historical if its f/f. Centering queer joy is my fave. 👭 #mswl
My #MSWL largely remains the same: stunning heartfelt MG, hard-hitting important YA, anything in verse, anything Jewish or Israeli, and fantasy across all genres. Combine any of the above and I’ll be even more smitten.
I am IN LOVE with most books that take place in some sort of fantasy arctic tundra. Don't ask me why. I really have no clue. But if your manuscript is atmospheric and takes place in a really harsh arctic environment, I want it! #MSWL
And to round out my Middle Grade #MSWL with some speculative items: chilling horror is always my jam, and I want to read your luscious, weird, wow-this-worldbuilding-is-fantastic fantasies.
I'm definitely looking to add to my MG list! I love some contemp. MG that deals with tough issues, MG fantasy, and MG sci-fi (yes, sometimes even the space kind here). I'm SUPER picky about MG voice though, so just send it in and see what happens! =) Maybe I'll love it! #MSWL
Hannah Allaman @hallaman13A friend just described something as "unreliable narrator feminist horror fantasy" and turns out that's all I want in a YA novel so pls send. #mswl
#MSWL - In MG, I will say I'd love, love to find a big middle grade series, something with heart & adventure. I'd love a sweeping MG fantasy-adventure, a new take on magical schools, or something high concept, high stakes, and FUN.
Kristine Swartz @KristineESwartzSo Berkley is famed for its cozy mysteries (go peep @BerkleyMystery to learn more!) and I've thought about what kind of pet I'd be if I were in a cozy mystery.
I believe I'd be a chicken.
Okay, up next is my #MSWL so that I can provide you with more books to love. Currently looking for female-centric romantic suspense, hilarious contemporary romances, flirty historicals, millennial anything, and urban fantasy (ya hate to see it)
