#MSWL fantasy w/ a translator protag. There's so much power in language-- how they translate for a ruler effects a whole kingdom, eg. I want to see the nuances & consequences of deciding how & what to translate, word play between languages, times when translation falls shortSomething I want to add to my #MSWL is that I find the rules of being a translator, especially for a deaf person, to be interesting. It would be interesting to see an MG about a child who has to speak for their parent (whether deaf or non-English speaking) and to see what happens

Also: messenger protagonist in a military fantasy setting. The folks who ride all night to bring the warnings of disaster. #MSWL

@whimsicallyours @agentsaba @RaeLoverde Omg lol. I actually wasn’t a big Zutara or Kataang shipper. I liked Zutara better but Katara felt like more of a mothering/big sister tole to them than romantic to me. Which is why her thing with Aang was weird 🤢BUT BUT LOOK AT THIS

Few children are born to us out there, among the stars. Maybe we need the right magnetosphere, or maybe there are no souls. So we return to Earth, like sea turtles returning to their beach, and every time, we find you have forgotten us.Come, will you come with us to the stars?

This is like porn to me. Someone, PLEASE write me a novel centered on a translator. #MSWL twitter.com/EmilyRCWilson/…For the morning crowd--#MSWL! I finished an ARC of MELMOTH recently--the protag is a translator--and adored it, but I'd love a voice and plot that include these kind of thought processes/mystery-solving/decision-making!

Why and how is translation so hard? Here's a little non-comparative case study to help make the process more visible. 9 words from the very start of the Odyssey, lines 1-2: ὃς μάλα πολλὰ / πλάγχθη, ἐπεὶ Τροίης ἱερὸν πτολίεθρον ἔπερσεν. Syntactically easy. This is like porn to me. Someone, PLEASE write me a novel centered on a translator. #MSWL

#MSWL!I’m imagining one of these exorcists getting caught up in some epic political struggle, and the others admonishing, “Don’t be such a drama queen! Our family sticks to lesser demons and dead commoners for a reason! Stop meddling with dead emperors!” twitter.com/philipjboyes/s…

So, time for another #MSWL, in the run-up to tomorrow's #askUpstart session. HUMOR, people! I love books that make me laugh, in every category; PB, CB, MG, YA. Here's a couple reasons why:Life is messy, and nothing is colored in the lines. It's often in a dark moment that things feel funniest. I like books that capture the messy complexity of life, including how humor crops up. #MSWL
