Shelly Romero @_smromeroLast year, the PW salary survey reported that Latinx people only made up 3% in the industry.
As a Latina editor, I can use my acquiring power to buy and booze the stories of Latinx people. And this is how I can do my part for #DignidadLiteraria.
Agents, my MG & YA #MSWL is:
✨ Contemporary; slice of life; coming of age; LGBTQIA+; coming out stories
✨ Mysteries and adventures
✨ Paranormal/supernatural especially brujxs, witches, vampires, wolves
✨ Plays with tropes
✨ Comps to DON’T DATE ROSA SANTOS, LOVE SUGAR MAGIC
The query inbox at @PSLiterary opens on Monday, and I’m so excited to add new clients to my list in 2020.
Representation info and my updated #mswl is at the link below. Let me know if you have any questions.
My favorite themes & tropes: monsters (werewolves, sirens, witches, vampires), hauntings, cults, fairytales, toxic relationships turned fatal, family dynamics, class & power imbalances, revenge, meta horror, body horror, psychological terror... #mswl
Lauren Spieller 📖 @laurenspiellerOKAY TWITTER. What's the new YA genre trend going to be? Let's decide now so we can all start drafting our dystopian-vampire-werewolf-super hero-space novellas and get 2020 off to a banging start.
V A M P I R E S
Any kind. Any where. MG? YES. YA? YES. Just give me it. #MSWL
when i updated my website, i also updated my wishlist! please bookmark this for the new year, when i finally, at long last, reopen to queries! #mswl #amquerying #querytip
Peter Knapp @petejknapp#amquerying writers, I'm going to dedicate time over the holidays to read submissions, so now is a great time to query!
I'm eager to find more middle grade, from contemporary standalones & illustrated MG to sweeping adventure & fantasy series. I'd love more YA contemp & grounded YA fantasy or "twist of magic" stories, too. And YA paranormal (I'm here for your vampires & werewolves) #mswl
Guess I should tag this thread w/ #MSWL & #PNR & #F & #Vampires #Adult #A (no YA or MG, not my rep'ing jam. Props to my fellow agents who rep those age ranges, but not my expertise.) Also if you sub me w/a project like this feel free to reply to this thread to give me a heads-up.
Tara 🏳️🌈📖🔮 @Literary_TaraY'all, are vampires coming back?
Ok, so I was a huge vampire person when I was younger. I'm kind of over vampires, but I know they are coming back, so #mswl if you have super evil vampires I'll take a look! Scary horror vampires! Or how about two evil vampires who try to kill each other and then fall in love?
✨ Latinx MG & YA (contemporary; rom-coms)
✨ Vampires! Especially if by authors of color
✨ Atmospheric small-town settings with lots of (deadly) secrets
✨ Mixed format stories like THE KINGDOM, RULES FOR VANISHING, & ALL OF THIS IS TRUE
I'm open to vampires! You've just got to give me something different, unique, with a wonderful plot or setting. Still thinking there's so much we can do with New Orleans POC vamps or vamps in island regions.
Also would love vamps with the humor of What We Do In The Shadows #MSWL
#mswl - I would love a fresh take on YA paranormal: vampires or werewolves like we've never seen them before, or a sprawling ghost story. Something that feels both grounded and also epic in terms of it scope and stakes.
Supernatural things I like:
-places that have their own life
-monsters from less well-known folklore
-Baba Yaga's chicken foot house
Oliver Clegg @deathbybadgerVAMPIRE: you see, this town is under my spell
MAN: actually I'm not
MAN: I'm not enchanted
VAMPIRE: but you did all those chores
MAN: you seemed stressed
VAMPIRE: you dusted my coffin
MAN: I wanted to
VAMPIRE: we had dinner
MAN: it was beautiful
Give me this YA romcom between a vampire and a nice bro #MSWL
Carolina Ortiz @pushthepanoramaIn general though, any POC authors take on vampires, werewolves, sirens, witches, and any manner of myth/supernatural is always #MSWL for me
hello yes thank you. still waiting for my YA banshee novel but will also take all of the below. #MSWL
