Today's #MSWL item is VERY specific:

I want whip-smart absurdist OR speculative literary fiction that acts as satirical or hyperbolic commentary on the oddly accepted parts of culture and society.
Eg: Kevin Wilson's NOTHING TO SEE HERE or Jessamine Chan's SCHOOL FOR GOOD MOTHERS

Finally, as before, I have a "bonus pitch" section in QM. USE IT! If you don't put clear pitches for additional manuscripts, I *will* reject your query. I'm looking to work with prolific, well-rounded authors. Nothing personal, just my preference to keep our options open. #mswl

This short #mswl is NOT an exhaustive list. Please visit my QM page for more details about what I like (and don't like). I created several custom genres to help me organize & read-through my submissions. Do your best to use them appropriately (don't sweat it if you're not sure).

- Mysteries and thrillers that are mysterious and/or thrilling from the first chapter. You can have set-up, but the tone should clearly convey what genre I'm reading.
- Adventures like Pax and Wolf Called Wander
- Clean, tight writing styles. I'm a minimalist by nature.

Literary “Romance”—I want a deeply thematic & potentially twisted story about complexity of relationships/ love.

HEA ok but prefer not.

Lots of interiority but center around an external happening!

LGBTQ+ yes! But prefer when sexuality is not the main conflict

BIG #MSWL item for me:

Upmarket fiction, #ownvoices #Indigenous stories that feature sports. Think Olympics, long-distance running, rock-climbing, snow sports, mountaineering, etc.

Ideally with strong character arcs and a commercially appealing external plot.

another thing for my #mswl , on vibes alone—I want brilliant court intrigue. Don't mind which court/world/time period, but I need smiles while knifing someone in the back and an mc who thinks 12 chess moves ahead (yes, I've been watching Shogun). #WritingCommunity #amquerying
