I'm noticing that many of the submissions in our portal don't include the word count or the genre. When submitting on our portal or directly to me via email, please be sure to always include the genre and word count. Looking forward to reading your queries & manuscripts! #MSWL

Lil' heads up--when I reopen to queries this fall, in addition to fiction, I'll be opening widely to ALL categories of adult non-fiction.

An imperfect metric, but when determining if your book is literary/upmarket speculative fiction or commercial genre fiction, the amount of jargon is usually an indicator. I love new or redefined words to describe original concepts but anything w/ a glossary, prob not for me #MSWL

I've gotten a lot of SFF queries lately, so please keep in mind:
YES - near future, primary world, humans or mostly humans, plausible tech, the supernatural

Okay, #WritingCommunity …a new item in my #MSWL …

Romance w/a plus size female lead who is comfortable in her own skin. And by plus size, I don’t mean a size 14. I mean a size 18 or 20ish. She’s not self deprecating, no dieting, but exercise—not for a guy but bc she likes it.

I have a soft spot for dark academia that focuses on the "losers." I love time loops, alternative lives, ensemble casts, genre-blending, soulmates, big platonic love, and cozy fantasies such as This Will Be Fun or Assistant to the Villain.

I'm particularly drawn to queernormative worlds and stories that don't center homophobia or transphobia as the main conflict. I strongly believe in the importance of diverse stories and I'm always interested in reading and promoting them.

YA supernatural thrillers/mysteries with toxic relationships, big emotions, betrayal, and found families.

I'm drawn to ambitious, complex, & weird stories. I love intelligent characters with complex morality. I'm a fan of fantasies grounded in the contemporary world that seamlessly blends magic. If your story features romance of any kind, I'm all in.

Fantasy built around religion, especially Jewish fantasy, is fine, but please, no religious texts.
