#mswl literary fiction, for me, is all about meeting new people to get trapped inside for a while - i dearly love a close-perspective novel that can share shelf space with ottessa moshfegh and elif batuman. some i'm still thinking about from the past few years!

We're also excited to continue to add new authors to that list. Here's our 2022 manuscript wishlist! #MSWL pic.twitter.com/cD59n0FR2tWe're always on the lookout for literary middle grade that capture the emotional turmoil of growing up. I am eager for more high-concept sci-fi and fantasy with literary and upmarket feel. Examples of my favorites in this space include THE POWER by Naomi Alderman, THE AGE OF MIRACLES by Karen Thompson Walker, and THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin Morgenstern.

For fiction, I am open to all genres. I <3 stories with dysfunctional, messy, and flawed protagonists. My taste gravitates towards literary and upmarket fiction (in the vein of EXCITING TIMES by Naoise Dolan, WHITE IVY by Susie Yang, THE VANISHING HALF by Brit Bennett)…

A #MSWL mini thread since I'm just dipping a toe into the querying world. 🧵I love all fiction, with a soft spot for magical realism (think 100 YEARS, of course!). Lit fic, spec fic, and sci-fi are also high on my list. Fantasy like BLACK LEOPARD. Psych fiction that slowly unravels, like RED PILL. And not always, but sometimes, a great love story.
#mswl I would really love to see any submissions of literary and book club fiction and beautifully written narrative non-fiction to read as the cold nights draw in and the pooch snores contentedly next to me 📚

In MG: Stories that are lyrical and on the more literary range of the spectrum. Especially ones that have some invisible chronic condition representation that I think so important and something I’d love to see for this age category. #mswl

Hi folks, a quick lunchtime #MSWL: While I absolutely love narrative nonfiction, I am positively dying to see more literary and upmarket speculative fiction (especially from BIPOC authors!!!) in my query inbox.

Beyond that, some general things I gravitate towards when reading: unreliable narrators, strong sense of place, atmosphere, lush settings (in fantasy AND contemporary/realistic fiction), strong emotional resonance, twists, surprises, literary/lyrical writing. #MSWL

I also LOVE horror in general! Horror with social commentary & twists on common tropes, like EAT YOUR HEART OUT & WHAT WE HARVEST. Atmospheric--all the dark, creepy vibes (strange small towns & dark forests never get old for me!). Beautiful literary writing is always a plus.
