We are reopening our #submissions tomorrow (eeeek!) so I thought I’d go through what I’m looking for this year in a hopefully helpful thread. #MSWLIn fiction I’d love to see high concept love stories for both commercial and reading group/literary crossover readers. I’m keen to see historical fiction and gothic horror - think Stacey Halls, Laura Purcell and Bridget Collins.

“Gothic fiction with possibly a modern storyline, too (like THE LITTLE STRANGER by Sarah Waters).” @carlywatters #MSWL psliterary.com/submissions/

Your magical realism, horror and gothic. I love atmospheric voices and settings. Think Nova Ren Suma, Rory Power, Claire Legrand, Laura Ruby, April Genevieve Tucholke

Today in pulp: a woman with great hair is fleeing a gothic house. Why?Well this is a signal to the reader: they hold in their hands one of ‘those’ books – not a historical romance or a ghost story, but a modern gothic romance.

I really really want some dark academia/secret society/cult books. Whether it’s gothic and horror, fantasy or mystery, I NEED this in my life. ‼️‼️

I am continuing to scream into the void for POCs writing/centered in horror, thrillers, mysteries, and suspense. I want the Mexican Gothic, Jordan Peele, Alexis Henderson vibes

We’d also love to see some dual timeline novels involving secrets and objects from the past, or gothic settings with hints of the supernatural – think MEXICAN GOTHIC and THE FAMILIARS.

Time for my annual fall #mswl! Send me all your murdery, gothic, horror, witchy books with bonfires and cozy sweaters and apple cider. pic.twitter.com/RPMlepQVX7They are a delight, please keep them coming! #mswl
What I would really find special would be a destination horror. For example, the Island of the Dolls in Mexico City would be an amazing setting. Give me more that the typical US spots. The darker, creepier, and more gothic it is...the better.

I'm also looking for that book-club/psych thriller middle-ground, in the vein of Liane Moriarty, where there are lots of dark secrets and surprising twists and characters that could be someone you know.In historical fiction, I would love something witchy and gothic. My taste tends towards under-represented voices from history, rather than a regency court romance. I'd love historical fiction by black and Asian voices. I love historical +mystery, or historical +love story.
