I have a number of brilliant contemp romance writers on my list, so I am particularly keen to find something different there. Love stories with an underrepresented culture or experience at the centre will be most welcome. BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ writers, I'd love to hear from you!

A MG adventure filled story about misfit kids with a super high stakes plot. I want peril, I want friendship, I want humour - like a group of friends that find an old map and have to race some dastardly criminals to find the treasure and save their family home...

A fun sporty YA that has friendships, drama, humour and heart with lots of scope for brilliant characters - like two rival cheer teams competing for a national title with a stunning tropey romance running in the background (best friends brother etc.)...

A funny, heart-warming, layered family drama with an ensemble cast that clash socially, politically, or culturally etc. and has an interesting setting - like a Pakistani Muslim husband and an English Catholic wife who own a fish & chip shop in Salford with their seven children...

A coming of age story (could be either YA or Adult) that's set in a specific era or place and centred on a particular 'thing' the MC loves or has to overcome - like an 11yo boy in 1980's Durham who, against all odds, wants to be a ballet dancer...

Lastly, high concept love stories and original romcoms are always welcome. I’d love to find new and underrepresented voices in that area that are doing something different. #mswl

And also, contemporary MG that’s full of adventure, humour and heart. There can be fantasy elements but I tend to love real(ish) world settings.

BUT, I’d especially love to find contemporary commercial YA (horror, thriller, romance etc.) that is really nailing whatever genre it is - in a fun and interesting way.

In very basic terms, I am on the lookout for adult fiction and non-fiction, as well as non-fiction for age 7+, MG and YA. And, I've said it before - and I'll say it again - if you're writing something like East is East, please send it my way. #mswl

For MG readers, I’m keen to find a funny, female focused story with series potential (think Louise Rennison or Karen McCombie) and an adventure story for that age group too. I love anything creepy and spooky, so please send anything like that along to me too.

In YA, I’d love to find a big epic love story that’s contemporary and someone writing horror for this age group too. I loved A Good Girls Guide to Murder and would be keen to see anything akin to that.

In Non-Fiction, I’m always on the lookout for good narrative writing and memoir on the issues we’re facing in the world today. I also have particular interest in people writing about film, music and popular culture.
