In the last couple of months, I struck out twice when offering on fun contemporaries. One a YA rom-com, the other an adorable, witty, MG. So, #MSWL want: fun contemporaries with a great hook, super strong writing, & loveable protagonists, even when they are a bit complicated.

#MSWL in all the contemporary YA (or MG) I read, I like to see boys being feminists and practicing healthy relationships and consent. ALWAYS queer-positive. I'd also love to see a #nonfiction proposal talking directly to boys about feminism and consent.

One thing I have noticed about my taste is I read for escape. I lean towards fantasy, or contemporary-elevated (which is not my regular every day).

MIDDLE GRADE

- historical fiction highlighting overlooked events or individuals from marginalized groups
- contemporary novels about POC immigrants/second generation Americans
