Alex Arnold @alexyarnoldHappy (?) New Year! I'm back from maternity leave (ready to talk your ear off about how #paidleave for all families is essential!!) and can't wait to dive back into my list at @quirkbooks with exciting subs and IP development. Here’s what I’m looking for this year… #MSWL
Weird, surprising, genre-bending YA fiction that plays with tropes, especially if it's darkly funny (does anyone have @searchpartymax for teens?)
In YA/Adult/Graphic Novel, I love:
🕵️A locked room mystery or a closed set thriller, like Detention (2021)
🏺Dark academia that really grapples with what it means to be a person of color in academia and the complicity it begs of you in its racist and classist structures
New year, new #MSWL!
I represent BIPOC, Queer, and marginalized creators writing commercial genre fiction across MG, YA, Adult, and Graphic Novel. My particular weaknesses are genre-blending SFF, horror, and anything with murder or making out (ideally both)
I open to #queries on Jan 17-Feb 17. Here's my #MSWL
#PB anything goes for fiction. For NF STEM
#MG for fiction horror, contemporary, adventure, HF. For NF field/nature guides
#YA horror, contemporary, retellings, HF, romance. For NF cookbooks, STEM, Inspirational
I am more than ready to sink my teeth into some new submissions! And to ring in the new year, I've updated my #mswl with all the many things I'm looking for in middle grade, YA, and graphic novels...
I want my own YA or Adult Yellowjackets novel centering queer woman, WHAT THE FUCK, PEOPLE!! Help a girl out 😭 Girls and women are the most frightening creatures in the world and should be actively spearheading their own demises as well as those they love. I WANT TO REP IT #mswl
DerekIsSuspectedOfWriting1967 @IsSuspected@bookishchick Hi Kelly, just wondering what kinds of novels you'd like to see, do you handle crime thrillers and fantasy and/or science fiction? All the best for 2022!
Hi! My #mswl is linked in my twitter profile and can be found here: manuscriptwishlist.com/mswl-post/kell…
Right now I'm mostly repping Children's fiction, specifically YA and MG, with a few exceptions.
Genres I'm on the hunt for:
MG fantasy, MG literary contemporary, YA humor, YA fantasy, YA rom-com, Upmarket Women's fiction.
#MSWL - international settings, folktale re-imaginings, funny friendship banter, twisty YA thrillers, multiple POV, found family.
🪞 psychological horror
👬 LGBTQ+ romance
🎸 historical fiction ft. music subculture
👩🏼🦼 contemporary stories
formats: prose, novels-in-verse, graphic novels, experimental structures
My #mswl profile is up at the @ManuscriptWList site! There are a few more details here, especially the sections on the right side bar showing what non-book media I also love! manuscriptwishlist.com/mswl-post/sara…
Elizabeth Lee @EleeReadsYOUNG ADULT:
- BIPOC rom-coms, friend-coms, and coming-of-age stories not exclusively centered around POC trauma
- Sweeping historical fiction / magical realism, especially stories about non-white history
- Speculative thrillers ala The Thousandth Floor & We Were Liars
Since it's a new year, here's my #MSWL again! I can't wait to find some gems in 2022, and am especially looking for the below YA books. ⬇️
😈 Ruthless schemers with a secret squishy marshmallow heart of gold (Roy Mustang vibes, basically)
🌃 YA contemporary fantasy with vintage Holly Black/Curse Workers vibes
👀 Narrators that knock big ol' holes in the fourth wall #MSWL
Some specific things I would love to see in my inbox:
🗡️ YA fantasy with sharp teeth that takes no prisoners and makes no apologies
💃 Dramatic historical romance/fantasy romance with Phantom of the Opera/Moulin Rouge/Great Comet ambience #MSWL
... a broad range of MG & YA fiction and graphic novels--fantasy (my first & greatest love as a reader), historical, romance, some great humor, and high-concept contemporary (especially with a framing device such as epistolary elements, then-and-now timelines, etc.) #MSWL
In YA, I’d love to see:
☀️RomComs—enemies to lovers from diverse voices
☀️Contemporary—stories that deal with illness. Funny heart-warming stories that build on friendship & family
☀️Sci-fi—with a romance thread
☀️LGBTQ—centered on love/growth
