I also really want science fiction horror! Please send me your horror set in space! Show me science getting out of control or defying all possibilities and breaking loose! 7/?
For me, the more science the better! I love extrapolations on current science/tech. I love stories set in space or that involve space travel or are set after some sort of catastrophe/apocalypse. 6/?
I'd also love to see grounded SFF and speculative work - I'm always thinking of BABEL, SHOOT THE MOON, BOOK OF NIGHT, EMILY WILDE'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF FAERIES, THE MINISTRY OF TIME. (3/
Hyper-specific MSWL:
- I’m still looking for trans & queer horror! Think Saltburn, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Hell Followed w/ Us
- villain protagonists & love interests
- SFF dark academia
- competitions, heists, trials/games (including sports/clubs!)
- disability & mental health rep
Adult:
- genre bending & blending across the board!
- fantasy and horror in the same vein as YA: gripping, dark, cerebral, exciting
- near future sci-fi with alternate/parallel realities, androids, and science that feels real
- queer romance with commercial hooks!
Hello #amquerying authors! I’ve just updated my #MSWL as I am now also open to ADULT Fantasy and Science Fiction 🎉 You can find a quick MSWL recap in the thread below:
Listen I know fantasy loves its mages, assassins, warrior princesses, and knights but please give me more scholars, shamans, mapmakers, artisans, and bards - I would love to see more creatives having adventures in SFF! #MSWL
Adult:
Upmarket, commercial/literary fiction, book-club fiction, magical realism, rom-com/women’s fiction crossover, historical, mysteries that are fun and light with a genre blend, science fiction (whether five-minutes-in-the-future or epic), fantasy, and romantasy.
6) For YA, I would love a high concept thriller, something broody and moody but also tightly plotted in the fantasy/horror space (I adore "House of Hollow"!!), and heart-wrenching, emotional sci-fi like "The Ones We're Meant to Find."
For sci-fi horror, I love it all. Creepy sentient alien spaceships, Event Horizon vibes, The Luminous Dead, The Last Astronaut,The Thing, The Descent, Underwater - give it to me…
When it comes to near future, I want to see books that remind me of Arrival: first contact through a new lens. I also LOVED Ascension, and anything with that sci-fi thriller feel, with the caveat that if you would comp it to Black Mirror, it’s not for me.
