I know we all love medieval fantasy but I am hugely into ancient civilizations and in love with @Fall_of_Civ_Pod by @PaulMMCooper. I would LOVE stories set in or inspired by these civilizations--historical or fantasy, either is fine! Would also love nonfic on the subject! #mswl
#MSWL Women's fic subs with a thriller/suspense element. For ref, see a book I worked on about a breast cancer survivor whose cancer is back, trapped by a forest fire, whose decision to give up or fight is complicated by 2kids & 2dogs trapped with her. amzn.to/31ZPgWD
My latest #mswl is for the friendship dynamics shown in Derry Girls. Earnest, unique individuals who shouldn't work together but somehow do, who are outlandishly funny, obliviously teen, and above all have each others backs.
beth phelan (closed to unsolicited queries) @beth_phelani feel like there is all this anxiety surrounding agents' mswl's because i think it can feel like a "skip the line" opportunity, and in some ways it is, but ultimately i think a lot of us are also looking to be surprised and find something in our inbox we hadn't thought of yet.
This applies to editors too: I don't always know what I want to acquire until I read it. If a ms doesn't fit my exact wishlist, a submitting author/agent shouldn't be concerned. I'm most excited by fresh ideas that surprise me. The only limitation is if we pub that genre.
phoebe @p_lowrenother things I like:
- enemies to lovers!
- the slow burn!
- parents who aren't dead! #MSWL
also if you have JADE WAR X CRAZY RICH ASIANS I will absolutely fight someone for it. (but politely. without breaking aisho.) #MSWL
Katelyn Uplinger @KatelynUplingerI feel like I haven't traveled enough outside of the US to have a definite fav yet, But my first favorite was the Jennie Wade house in Gettysburg as a tween because of the tragic love story. #HFChitChat twitter.com/hfchitchat/sta…
I want to add a historical fiction #MSWL as an agent for a story about Jennie Wade. Maybe one that switches between Jennie's tragic story and the present about a woman's experience with the legend surrounding the bullet hole in the door.
the library haunter 🦉🎃 @SketchesbyBozemore stories about complicated women, more stories about emotional boys, more stories where the protagonist is sensitive and shy and kind, more stories about people who fall into deep friendship without falling in love.
phoebe @p_lowrenheyo! seeing as I have not been smited yet for taking queries, I thought I'd thread a #MSWL here because searchable:
I'd love to see more spec fic from underrepresented / marginalized voices! All-time favorites include Jade City/Jade War, This Is How You Lose the Time War, and Oculus by Sally Wen Mao #MSWL
Sarah 💫 @Harriet_Vane_Homeopathy is obviously fake but swallowing pieces of the Berlin Wall to break down one's own emotional barriers is astonishingly poetic and the beginning of a GREAT SFF story. theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/s…
Hello yes if you (someone who is not Sarah, who is represented by my MORTAL ENEMY) write this book, please send it to me, I am extremely into turning history into magic and also all the weight attached to ancient buildings. #mswl
if anyone has a MG or YA with a PROTAGONIST who has ADHD, i'd love to see it. in particular, a type that isn't the more commonly associated hyperactive but features the inattentiveness, procrastination, disorganized thoughts, etc. would be open to realistic or fantasy #MSWL
Fawzia Mirza @thefawzMuslim women - I’m developing a show about us. What would you like to see?????
intersectional muslims; joyful, largely unconfused muslims; muslims who aren't afraid to acknowledge and/or critique the problematic natures of many prominently accepted beliefs and practices within the community #mswl
