I also love historical fiction, though I'm mostly interested in the 1700s-1960s. Anything set in the ancient world typically isn't my thing. #MSWL

Also, horrible, terrible, creepy, awful villains. #mswl

Since it’s #MSWL Day, I’m going to post a thread of the types of projects I'd love to see in my inbox. I’ll kick it off with a link to my MSWL, which I update frequently, and which I have heard described as “very oddly specific."

What I'm most interested in is fresh mysteries with strong characters. It could be a cozy, a psychological suspense, a police procedural, etc. My mystery tastes are pretty broad. #MSWL

What my inbox is hungry for: Some adult Crime Fiction, Dark Comedy, and Thrillers. Maybe some unique YA fantasy. Also children’s Mystery and Fantasy. A killer True Crime book would make my life. Are you writing one? #MSWL @VictressLit

Oh, and I have a soft spot for Southern Gothic. Especially from/about POC. And I don’t mean just tossing a side character who practices hoodoo/voodoo into a mostly white story. *side eyes Hollywood* #MSWL YA/MG

Sara Schonfeld @SaraSchon
The pitch: a modern day ghost-hunter, but instead of locating spirits, they're a detective who tracks down exes who have cut off communication. This is a genuine--and impossible IRL--dream job, so I'd at least like to rep a book about it. #MSWL
I am a huge, huge fan of historical fantasy, especially from unexpected places and times (like @kateheartfield's Armed in Her Fashion). I don't represent historical fiction with no fantastic elements. #MSWL

I just finished WESTSIDE last night, and it has a lot of qualities I'm looking for: historical, noir, speculative element, gorgeous writing, great voice. #MSWL
I say this every #mswl, but I never get enough hard sf. I especially like hard sf based on the unexpected sciences, like @SueBurkeSpain's Semiosis series, based on her study of botany.

Shout out to the @Inkyard squad for giving me this #MSWL title when we were talking about the book I want to take down the patriarchy. It needs to be called: AND IT HAS POCKETS!👇 I legit tell people about this on the daily. Probably has a MC with the voice like Veronica Mars. #MSWL

History-inspired epic fantasy with intricate, detailed worldbuilding. I'm talking Hannibal's march on Rome, the rise of Shaka Zulu, Sultana Shajar al-Durr of Egypt, etc.
Look to history and give me some new epics! #mswl

Lastly (I think), ghost stories, for MG/YA/adult. Did anyone out there also grow up with Kathryn Tucker Windham's Jeffrey books? Give me ghost stories for people who grew up loving the Jeffrey books. #MSWL

#MSWL These are the kinds of details that build a convincing, contemporary YA world. Teens are intertwined with digital communication, and they're secretive, which means they're going to figure this shit out on their own. So much to mine! Write it true. twitter.com/rachsyme/statu…When you're writing YA, consider how teens ACTUALLY communicate and use technology! Please! #MSWL
