-Adult horror based on intriguing historical events (e.g. The Donner Party in Alma Katsu’s THE HUNGER)
-High concept adult fiction with a speculative thread for the book club space
-Fantasy in spooky settings

Keeping in the theme, I'd love a horror (YA or Adult) like YELLOWJACKETS that's as much about the speculative element as the interpersonal tension

Totally random, but an MG with bird or animal characters having to perform a banishment or exorcism ritual would be a total #MSWL for me. Wind in the Willows but horror? How amazing would that be. That’s the kinda thing I wanna see for real.

Anyone writing a horror/thriller romance? #MSWL

Some niche #MSWL dream projects: CRYPTIDS. YA fiction with some mystery, thriller, maybe even horror. Give me the eery Appalachia stories or a chupacabra in Puerto Rico. If you have cryptids, I want to see it.

In genre fiction: fantasy (shorter, mostly standalone books—epic fantasy series are not for me), grounded science fiction, magical realism, retellings of fairy tales, horror. #MSWL

I love retellings, but I believe that 1) they shouldn’t be too precious with the original, but bring something new to the telling, and 2) need to stand on their own. I’d also really love to see a retelling with an unexpected genre mashup, like mythology x sci-fi, or Peter Pan x horror (😍) #MSWL

Right now, the largest % of queries I receive are for the fantasy genre. Which is great, I love fantasy, but I also want my list to be balanced. So I would *really* love to see more queries in other genres: romcom, horror, mystery, historical, magical realism, graphic novel, etc. #MSWL

- anything inspired by reality TV (bonus points for Traitors, Love Island, or the Bachelor inspo!)

- gothic romance, gothic horror, and horroromance of all kinds!

-BIPOC romantasy

- YA mysteries that feel like Truly Devious or One of Us is Lying

- YA psychological thrillers like We Were Liars

- YA horror that is gently spooky and also very dark YA horror

-Atmospheric Horror, and extreme settings, like a blistering cold winter or a dry desert
-Old stories coming back to haunt the MC
-Character led journeys to find the truth or right a wrong
-Supernatural elements
- Dark naturalism, earthy, creepy woods

I would love to see more queer fiction--historical, crime, horror. I want it all! #MSWL

Plus #Horror that draws on similar folklore inspirations but with much darker themes and settings, like books by T. Kingfisher and C.J. Cooke.

Though I've been dipping my toes into younger children's books lately, the only children's genre I'm actively seeking out is YA. I love a funny contemporary YA novel, a twisty mystery, or a super dark horror novel. Basically, I'm looking for the same genres in adult and YA. #MSWL

I'm drawn to horror that's deeply emotional. I like subtle grounded internal monsters, rather than literal zombies and werewolves. #MSWL
