"I'd really love to get more YA horror in my inbox. Smart horror. I don't want gore, I want a story that creeps me out, and asks questions I don't want answers to."
"Send me select horror—I'm more interested in psychological elements, but I don't mind a bit of gore. Anything disturbing or unnerving is up my alley. Novels and collections welcome!"
Horror! I’m a huge horror movie fan, and am always on the hunt for a project to keep me up all night. Books that recently scared the pants off me: THE HACIENDA, JACKAL, THE HONEYS, and HOUSE OF HUNGER. Does it have a sense of humor a la NIGHTBITCH or “Yellowjackets?” Even better!
Chelsey Emmelhainz @LitAgentChelseyDear #amquerying, I'll be closing to queries on 12/1!
Please submit to me before that so I can dig into your work over the holidays.
FWIW, I'm still looking for fresh, diverse #horror and #mystery (dark or cozy) and narrative nonfic that sheds light on hidden histories
Surprise! I’m opening to queries November 1st-18th! While I love picture books, I have a lot of them on sub so I’m hoping to find:
-YA fantasy, paranormal, or horror (no gore!)
-Adult fantasy or thrillers
On the horrors, an ensemble cast is a plus but not necessary. And I’m definitely interested in haunted house stories… or basically some good atmospheric horror where the setting might play a part of the horror. #mswl
Really looking for some great #PsychologicalThriller or #horror stories right now! Either adult or ya! Also, I’m on the lookout for some great romcoms! So in other words, I want you to spook me, but then I’ll laugh about it. 😉 #mswl
Rachel Heine @RachelHeine10 horror movies to get to know me in no particular order:
Bram Stoker's Dracula
What Lies Beneath
Bride of Chucky
Little Shop of Horrors
13 Ghosts twitter.com/Addison_Peacoc…
13 horror movies to get to know me, and b/c it's PitDark so #mswl for vibes
I Know What You Did Last Summer
Ready or Not
The Lost Boys
Wes Craven's New Nightmare
The Strangers (Speedman forever)
The Invitation (2016)
What I do love to see in the YA Contemporary field are thrillers, hauntings that can toe the line of horror without going overboard, rom-coms, friendship break ups, and grandparent relationships. I especially love to see all this with BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ characters. #mswl
For Adult: sweeping, weird, and darkly lyrical SFF and horror. I especially love stories with setting as character, monsters (body horror!), villains, and gorgeous writing. Think Ava Reid’s JUNIPER & THORN or Jennifer Giesbrecht’s THE MONSTER OF ELENDHAVEN.
I’m not usually one for horror (scaredy cat party of 1 😅) but I’d love to try some horror in my QM. Bonus points for being something out of the ordinary. Adult fiction only please. #mswl
Agents! I am eager for new, exciting acquisitions and I updated my #mswl to prove it! Check out what I’m looking for here (spoiler alert: subversive horror, witty rom coms, & unique genre mash-ups): manuscriptwishlist.com/mswl-post/alis…
I would love some locked room mysteries/ thrillers.
YA/ Adult Horror like Kiersten White’s Hide, Kathryn Foxfield’s books, or Clown in a Cornfield.
Giant sharks/ cryptid books.
queer, feminist, and non-Western horror with subtle social commentary and an atmosphere that fills me with a sense of creeping dread and makes me throw your book across the room while my heart pounds dramatically
