One of my dream #MSWL books is a horror novel set in a cave -- think The Descent for books. Claustrophobic, dark, encroaching madness...bonus points for historical setting, an ambiguous ending, or a queer romance subplot. Antarctica horror would be cool too I guess 💁‍♀️

Okay, agent friends, it's #MSWL time! I'm an Associate Editor at Penguin Workshop, looking for middle grade and YA, as well as graphic novels in both categories. I love historical fiction, fantasy, and mysteries, and if you have something that combines those elements in a clever way, send it to me!

right now, I am particularly thirsty for queer romance (high concept, speculative, or historical), grounded fantasy (cozy or literary > epic), and literary fiction about gender and the body, queer and trans histories and futures, and characters who are trying hard to imagine a kinder world.

#MSWL Unusual retellings, and fiction that has a mythic quality or creates new myths! Bonus points for morally gray protagonists, stories that open doors to secret knowledge or hidden worlds, and genre elements from fantasy to historical with a twist, spec fic, and literary-commercial fiction.

I’d love to see fantasy, spec fic, SF, comedy of manners, Rom-Coms, historical with a twist, and contemporary fic based on Japanese culture and/or set in Japan. I spent two years each in Tokyo and Osaka, and have an ongoing love affair with all things Japan. #MSWL
