Hyper-specific MSWL:
- I’m still looking for trans & queer horror! Think Saltburn, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Hell Followed w/ Us
- villain protagonists & love interests
- SFF dark academia
- competitions, heists, trials/games (including sports/clubs!)
- disability & mental health rep
Adult:
- genre bending & blending across the board!
- fantasy and horror in the same vein as YA: gripping, dark, cerebral, exciting
- near future sci-fi with alternate/parallel realities, androids, and science that feels real
- queer romance with commercial hooks!
YA & MG:
- I am looking for fast paced, high stakes adventures in all genres!
- fantasy and horror in particular — send me your gothic, psychological, magical tales
- diverse stories & queer romance
- clever, voicey protagonists and villains!
Hello #amquerying authors! I’ve just updated my #MSWL as I am now also open to ADULT Fantasy and Science Fiction 🎉 You can find a quick MSWL recap in the thread below:
I’m picky with fantasy, and tend to go more for light fantasy (think The Raven Cycle. Buffy, or Ninth House). High fantasy needs to be accessible and character driven (a la Sarah J Maas).
Authors, my official #mswl is forthcoming, but I'm on the hunt for lyrical and joyful commercial and upmarket fiction, and select literary fiction, fantasy, and YA. A few specifics:
Listen I know fantasy loves its mages, assassins, warrior princesses, and knights but please give me more scholars, shamans, mapmakers, artisans, and bards - I would love to see more creatives having adventures in SFF! #MSWL
#MSWL I'm a sucker for epic, historical feeling fantasy worlds, but I'd love to see more epic, modern feeling secondary fantasy worlds and worlds that gorgeously blend historical & modern too!
High stakes & romance get my attention well. MG, YA, Adult/New Adult all welcome!
Adult:
Upmarket, commercial/literary fiction, book-club fiction, magical realism, rom-com/women’s fiction crossover, historical, mysteries that are fun and light with a genre blend, science fiction (whether five-minutes-in-the-future or epic), fantasy, and romantasy.
6) For YA, I would love a high concept thriller, something broody and moody but also tightly plotted in the fantasy/horror space (I adore "House of Hollow"!!), and heart-wrenching, emotional sci-fi like "The Ones We're Meant to Find."
#MSWL In MG in particular, I'd love to see more urban fantasy adventures like Percy Jackson featuring casts of really loveable characters in really epic situations.
Upper MG, YA crossover, and YA like LEGENDBORN is definitely welcome too!
All of this is in addition to seeing anything that’s fantasy romance and fantasy horror, of course, but I wanted to dedicate a special thread to the above topics since I’m not seeing as much love in my subs list for them right now.
I love seeing djinn on the page, Muslim characters as heroes. I love settings that feel like feudal Japan, or that have that Blue Eyed Samurai vibe. And anything that feels like epic fantasy x horror. And DRAGONS, always dragons.
I would love to see novels that explore Jewish mysticism - I'm hoping that Swordcatcher and the new Leigh Bardugo will bring about more Jewish epic fantasy!
