For romcoms, my taste veers towards genre-blends, i.e., a romcom that’s also a family saga or a romcom com that’s also a thriller. DIAL A FOR AUNTIES by Jesse Q. Sutanto is a great example and my all-time favorite romcom.

Family stories are like catnip to me, whether family of origin, family of partnership, or found family. I adored L.A. WEATHER by María Amparo Escandón and THE MOST FUN WE EVER HAD by Claire Lombardo.

I want something that will break my heart. Sobs outside of a movie theatre parking lot. Hands shaking, trembling before a huge moment. Screaming for help through small physical actions people don’t pick up on. Contemporary MG, YA or NA with big stakes & family drama.

#MSWL 3/5 Page-turning, atmospheric, sharply written #crime, #suspense, #thrillers They're sometimes about family/relationships or social issues or culture but are very much in their genre.

Some more specific interests: Religious faith and/or grappling as a lens on coming of age, generational stories, old timey cities, family secrets, hauntings, mistakes that were meant to happen, and optimism in spite of it all.
