Rom-coms, paranormal romance, dystopian romance, science fiction/fantasy/speculative, & thriller/suspense. I would love to see: diversity, LGBTQ+, environmental issues/climate change, school settings, and mental health.
(Thread 2/7) ✅ #Fantasy: Worlds where technology took over (Black Mirror), Parallel universes, fringe science, time travel, low fantasy, urban fantasy, dying earth (NOT VIRUSES), historical fantasy, lost worlds, dystopian, futuristic, utopia, romantic fantasy, etc. #MSWL
For YA, I love contemporary coming of age, fantasy grounded in reality, near-future dystopia, and high-concept speculative. Psychological thrillers that push the envelope. Truly twisty mysteries. Literary ghost stories. #MSWL
✅ #Fantasy #MSWL
Low fantasy, high fantasy, parallel universes, fringe, urban, magic, magical realism, heroes, superheroes, witches, robots/AI, dying earth, historical, lost worlds, dystopian, futuristic, time travel, utopia, colonization, with romance, slipstream, etc.
I usually prefer contemporary or near-historical realism, but will sometimes consider speculative fiction, fantasy, psych thrillers, lite dystopian, literary horror, and paranormal (especially dealing with ghosts). #MSWL
My hands-down favorite YA dystopian is SCYTHE, so come at me with your clever takes on the future of death and society! I also want to see Gen-Z characters taking on a broken society in the way only they can. Give me the next CREWEL, THE GRACE YEAR, or ACROSS A STAR-SWEPT SEA.
#mswl: I'm not a fan of dystopias where the heroes know they're in a dystopia. I do like dystopias that look like utopias, especially high-tech ones (Brazil, Upload).
Worldbuilding that gets creepier the more you think about it is one of my favorites.
I'd love a hopeful near future project, an optimistic dystopian tale, something that imagines a world where everything might be broken, but there is a best of humanity that survives (I can't imagine why I want this) #MSWL 5/

In YA - all categories and genres #MSWL I am partial to:
- Unique take on dystopian & all YA SFF
- Thriller/Mys: dark and broody
- Historical from any time other than WW2
- Contemp? Something funny! Bring me your YA snark and sarcasm.
Anne Tibbets @AnneTibbetsIt's been a while since I've done a #MSWL and I try not to b/c honestly, sometimes I don't know what I want until I see it - but I know some of y'all find these useful so here goes...
In Adult SFF #MSWL I'm partial to:
- Fresh twists & unique concepts
- I love all kinds: dystopia, post apoc, space opera, high fantasy, low, magical realism, urban, etc - but it HAS to be different than what's already out there.
- Mash ups and new takes most welcome
Speculative fiction and with a lightly dystopian angle like WILDER GIRLS and WE SET THE DARK ON FIRE. Give me something so weird here it's impossible to fit in one category. #MSWL
#overheard two 20 somethings talking about #books yesterday. Readers still want more of the same - just different? I wonder what a #dystopian, #postapocalyptic #domestic #thriller might look like? #bookslike #mswl
