I think I haven't mentioned what I'm looking for in a while: thrillers for adults and romance/rom-com for adults that have fresh hooks. Upmarket fiction from underrepresented perspectives. I am not open to expanding my children's list at the moment. #MSWL

I'm working on a big, updated nonfiction #mswl post for my NF writing friends, but, in the meantime, this thread gives an idea of the types of projects I'll be looking for in 2022. Send 'em if you got 'em.

✨Twisty thrillers that border on horror and delve into the dark depths of the human psyche in new and interesting ways.
✨Give me all the firsts: love, heartbreak, menstruation, sex, loss.
✨Chemistry that can't be denied—even if the that chemistry is initially fueled by hate.

✨Wolves, really anything with wolves where they are not cast as a villain.
✨Old houses and buildings with history and secrets of their own. (Generally, I love stories where the setting is essentially a character.)
✨Herbology, tarot, and crystals.
✨Unapologetic protagonists.

✨Kids who love to bake and cook.
✨Contemporary fantasy and books that showcase magic in our world.
✨Specifically adult: a fresh take on a crime procedural with a female lead (bucking tropes and stereotypes).
✨Multigenerational storytelling and ancestral magic.

Some things I am currently looking for across age groups:
✨More humor—we could all use more laughter right now, right?!
✨Kids falling in love with the outdoors—camping, urban gardens, farms, really anything to do with nature.
✨ Girls who do martial arts!

Always looking for teens who work! I waited tables at dinner shifts after school, and there's something unique about the bonds you form in those back kitchens and walk-in freezers! Give me your waiters, lifeguards, camp counselors, retail workers--all! #AskECLA #MSWL

I will also add there is a tendency when looking at YA fantasy to over-simplify with "This fairy tale/classic re-telling is overdone" but when you look at it, it's all white/western retellings. I am 100% open to retellings from new perspectives. #MSWL #AskECLA

Yes same!! And survival + horror! I am dying for something that meshes those in interesting ways like #WilderGirls or #Yellowjackets circa 1996. More for #YAlit. #askECLA #MSWL

I will forever want more survival stories-- Hatchet was one of my faves growing up, I loved THE RAFT, OBLIVION ROAD, FIVE TOTAL STRANGERS, etc. If they're snowed in, stranded at sea, stuck in a desert, I want to read it. MG & YA. #MSWL #AskECLA
