Erik Hane @erikhane
Started the year off by reading Alyson Hagy's SCRIBE, and really loved it. Appalachian folklore, ghost stories, pitch-perfect prose in a short book that doesn't waste any words. Still digesting its beautiful and complex ending. You won't regret the few hours it takes to read it.Honestly liked this one enough to say that if you feel your work is in this vein--and not just on the level of literal subject matter, you'll know what I mean if you read it--I hope you'll send me a query. #MSWL

#MSWL. One 2019 resolution is to expand my representation to Middle Grade. I love these books, especially ones w/messages of hope/inclusion/diversity that may also address difficult emotional situations. And ones w/fantasy/superpowers. Please query me at atuttle@dystel.com.

A lot of my previous #mswl's still stand too - baseball, the ERA, Hitchcock for a younger set, Madame Curie, etc.

I'm also opening to chapter book fiction and non-fiction for the trade market this year (though having to be very selective about it!) #mswl

I'd also love to see more high concept picture book manuscripts - give me clever, witty and/or hysterical but with a heart. #mswl

I'm also looking to add more illustrators to my list in 2019! (Both illo only and author-illustrator). To get a sense of the work I love, see my brilliant clients - @charlenedraws @Kristin15104318 @Chi_Gaia @AngelaTraunig #sallydeng #yvonneivinson #MSWL #kidlitart

I'd be interested to see a YA nonfiction guide to money that acknowledges the gig economy, high cost of secondary education, lack of pensions, etc. How can today's teens/late millennials prepare for a much different financial reality than previous generations? #mswl

In YA nonfiction, I'd be interested to see some guides to activism (including eco and political activism) written for teens from somebody with a solid platform. #mswl

Likewise, I always have room for more own voices work for children and teens from poc, lgbt+, queer, neurodiverse, disabled and other marginalized authors and illustrators. #mswl

And I always have room for more brilliantly crafted middle grade. My big loves are contemporary, historical fiction and magical realism. #mswl

I'd still love a super witty and clever beach read/romcom in YA. #mswl

This year, I'd love to see more trade non-fiction for children and teens that goes beyond a traditional biography! Show me science, history, cultural movements, our planet, etc. in ways I haven't seen before! (bonus points if it's a graphic novel!) #NonFiction #pb #mg #ya #mswl

I've reopened to queries and represent fiction, non-fiction and illustration for children and teens! (Sorry, I don't represent works for adults, but a lot of my lovely @bookendslit colleagues do!)

My mother-in-law was telling stories of how she had to accompany her sister on match-making dates in Hong Kong when she was a kid. Dim sum with the couple and all the females in the family. Is there a historical romance like this, especially own voices? I would love to read this!Omg please someone write this for me #mswl
