Literary

Ahoy, it's #MSWL day! Send me your dark, propulsive novels that play with genre. Beautiful, literary prose is a must; think Station 11, Her Body & Other Parties, etc. A campus novel that's so much more: like The Incendiaries, Secret History. Oh, & pls follow my query guidelines!

Brent Taylor @btaylorbooks · Sep 12

Top of my #MSWL is a literary middle grade mystery with high stakes, middle grade and YA graphic novels, author-illustrated picture books, a YA novel told in reverse chronological order.

Dark literary mysteries/suspense/thrillers with female lead i.e. DARK PLACES, YOU WILL KNOW ME, THE FEVER, THE POWER #mswl

Carly Watters @carlywatters · Sep 12

Upmarket, structurally interesting, sweeping love stories of all kinds. I’d love a LGBTQ story in the vein of ONE DAY/THE VERSIONS OF US. Something like a more commercial PAYING GUESTS (which I loved, but I'm not interested in ton of capital L literary fiction right now). #mswl

For #MSWL, I'm tweeting oddly specific examples of things that I'd be into, in genres in which I'm definitely looking for more projects.

Those include:
YA fiction & nonfiction (all kinds)
MG fiction & NF (all kinds)
SF/F (especially upmarket/literary)
Narrative NF
Adult literary

#MSWL I’m always going to be in the mood for a literary/upmarket #ownvoices family saga. I want something deep, addresses the generational divide, and will make me cry my eyes out.

So v. happy to be back agenting! Check out my query guidelines and interests here: lightningbugspub.wordpress.com. Looking for terrific fiction across multiple genres, and solid non-fiction. #MSWL

On the lookout 👀 for some really compelling upmarket/literary horror, particularly in the #YA space. The kind you gobble down in one sitting because you’re so spooked! 😱 #amquerying #querytrenches #mswl

I will not be able to spend a lot of time in #PitMad, but I am open to queries and hungry. #MSWL: mystery, suspense, thriller, women's fiction, upmarket & literary adult fiction. Query me here: querymanager.com/query/Jessica_…

Replying to @McgeheeJess

I am looking for upmarket or literary speculative fiction like STATION ELEVEN, but I'm not right for straight fantasy or SFF. #MSWL So yes, I might be right for this, but I would only know if I read the query.

Jessica Faust @BookEndsJessica · Aug 29

As you know I've been on the hunt for more #ownvoices and #diversebooks in nonfiction & fiction in mystery, suspense, thriller, upmarket & literary, & women's fiction. #MSWL

Jessica Faust @BookEndsJessica · Aug 29

While #ownvoices and #diversebooks have caught on in YA, I'm still struggling to see it in adult and, frankly, that's what I want more of. #MSWL My target genres right now are: literary & upmarket fiction, mystery, suspense, thriller, & women's fiction.

Genevieve Gagne-Hawes @genevievejude · Aug 22

A more abstract #MSWL, but I loved this story about the last Blockbusters of Alaska and the role they played in their communities. I'd love to see a literary novel, YA or adult, that focuses on these social shifts due to technology.

Jessica Faust @BookEndsJessica · Aug 16

In general, my #MSWL includes mystery, suspense, thriller, women's fiction, upmarket & literary fiction. I want more #ownvoices in all things and more #diversebooks #thursdaythoughts

Jessica Faust @BookEndsJessica · Aug 16

I desperately need upmarket, literary or women's fiction that takes a close look at the opioid epidemic. Maybe a person dealing with a child, spouse, or other who is addicted? Or a family saga ala Bull Mountain #MSWL

Sarah Phair @SarahPhair · Aug 13

Where are the sexy literary novels? I'm reading one now that purports itself as "erotic" and it's just...not. (But shout out to The Pisces, which I loved) #MSWL

I love ambitious, literary YA, and would especially like one that's lushly, unabashedly romantic. #MSWL
