My SFF feelings apply to YA, too -- although in YA I am more open to Contemporary Fantasy/Paranormal than I am in Adult.

In YA and MG, I'm really looking for everything and anything, but lately my tastes have skewed more Contemporary. #MSWL

On to SFF! I am here for light SFF. I have trouble with space operas and anything with elves, orcs, etc.

I like my sci-fi techy and plausible (i.e. RECURSION by Blake Crouch) and my fantasy grounded in history/folktale (think SPINNING SILVER, CITY OF BRASS, THE POPPY WAR). #MSWL

For #MSWL in adult sci-fi/ fantasy:

- contemporary fantasy that's "city as character"

- anything that reminds me of a CW show (lol)

- positive climate fiction

- near-futuristic SF with anti-capitalist critique in the vein of PARASITE

I'm also looking for unique MG and YA - horror, fantasy, sci-fi, and contemporary (and YA thrillers). Your voice and premise need to stand out. I want UNIQUE. Send query and 1st 5 pages to: querylynnette (at) theseymouragency (dot) com. #MSWL #amquerying #WritingCommunity

Good morning, y'all! I have updated my #MSWL on my agency page to include more specific language about what kind of horror & sci-fi I am looking for as well as what I'm not looking for at this time. Check it out!

P.S. Literary Agency @PSLiterary · Feb 1

"Sci-fi & fantasy novels. I love them. I read a ton of them. But they have to be accessible. What does that mean? It means that readers who don't traditionally pick up much sci-fi/fantasy, can pick up one of these novels & enjoy it." @ericsmithrocks #MSWL

Closing out the day & week with a #mswl: I love middle grade adventure series (whether paranormal, sci-fi, or fantasy) with lots of heart & humor. If that's what you're querying, I'd love to see your project!

Sub instructions here:

Erin Clyburn @erin_clyburn · Jan 30

There are other great examples but I'll leave it at that for now; you get the idea. I'd love to see any mashups like these, where you could almost fit it into a variety of genres. This goes for YA & adult, btw.

Erin Clyburn @erin_clyburn · Jan 30

Or THE AGE OF MIRACLES by Karen Thompson Walker. It's about the Earth's rotation slowing & the massive aftereffects—but also it's a bildungsroman, just one girl dealing with becoming a teen as the world falls apart around her.

Erin Clyburn @erin_clyburn · Jan 30

I am looking for light sci-fi with personal stakes. I've mentioned these before but these are the big examples I keep coming back to: NEVER LET ME GO by Ishiguro. It's about interpersonal relationships/coming of age—but also it's about cloning.

John Cusick @johnmcusick · Jan 28

So, if you are an author of quirky, adventurous, challenging and bold sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, please be in touch. And if you are an author who isn’t quite sure whether your work is for the YA or adult market, query me and we’ll figure it out.

John Cusick @johnmcusick · Jan 28

I’m particularly eager to find voices from historically underrepresented perspectives in adult SF/F and horror, and as a queer man, I am especially drawn to LGBTQIA+ and feminist perspectives for those genres as well. #MSWL

I am so excited to announce that I am now representing adult and crossover sci-fi, fantasy, and horror! MG & YA will continue to be a large part of my list (and I'm always looking for more!), but now I'm also actively pursuing and selling genre projects in the adult space.

So what am I looking for? I want explosive, colorful, funny, bizarre, exciting stories that examine technology, identity, and human relationships of all kinds. As in kidlit, I’m eager for vital, personal, and poignant stories in the #adult sf/f and horror genres. #MSWL

Roseanne is on hiatus Wells @RivetingRosie · Jan 27

-More nonfiction in MG and YA, esp science, art, history, etc. NF graphic novels are great here too.

-I'd love to see more mysteries, in MG, YA, and adult. I'm really into Veronica Speedwell and Veronica Mars.

-More intergenerational stories in MG, YA, and SFF. #MSWL

#MSWL cont’d
. . . Alt. history (from a marginalized or unusual perspective; with an alternate outcome—e.g. THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE; introduces SFF element to a historical event—e.g. LEVIATHAN @ScottWesterfeld, but for the adult market)

Melanie Iglesias @msmelread · Jan 26

#LitAgents, my #MSWL (Adult):
‣ Upmarket contemporary fic: Womxn; mental health; “Late” (30s+) coming-of-age; LGBTQIA+
‣ Grounded speculative fic: “ ” w/ elements of SFF/magical realism; Modern retellings (fairy tales; myths & legends; folklore; classics); CliFi (not preachy);

Seeking bold, fresh, literary #specfic #scifi with a strong feminist lean like Naomi Alderman's THE POWER @NaomiAllthenews, Lidia Yuknavitch's BOOK OF JOAN @LidiaYuknavitch, Sophie Mackintosh's THE WATER CURE @fairfairisles. See how to query me in my bio. #mswl
