- A strong voice and clear concept that grabs you immediately
- Straightforward language
- Age appropriate story

- Story/writing style/word choices more suited for an older readership
- The 'call of action' coming too late / too much exposition

I've been trawling our subs inbox for great middle grade. I thought I'd share some observations:
- Firstly, we don't get sent enough of it!
- Seeing a lot eco themes, historical, & animal protagonists - Not enough contemporary
- A lot of Upper MG, not enough Lower

At the weekend I had a chat with someone about the Western they are writing, and woke up this morning wanting to read a UK western about drovers coming up against enclosure. Is there such a thing? I have vague memories of Drovers' Gold on the telly #mswl

Currently listening to Binge Mode Harry Potter, rewatching ATLA, next rewatch Dawson’s Creek. Next read? Hopefully some YA or MG featuring a ride or die group of friends. A story where friendship and love is central to the protag’s success. #MSWL
