Mystery. MG + YA. I will never forget reading The Dollhouse Murders when I was in fifth grade and having to close the book because I was so scared. I want to work on books that prompt that same level of book-induced fright! Also: I’m obsessed with the Truly Devious series. #MSWL

Atmospheric books. I love a unique atmosphere/strong sense of place in books across the board—to the extent where the setting feels like one of the characters. #MSWL

I love books with a high-concept hook, like THE DEAD QUEEN'S CLUB. #MSWL

Summer camp or job stories set in places like museums, amusement parks, space camp, study abroad programs, out at sea, etc. Gimme all the characters getting into shenanigans in fun new settings! #MSWL

I loved Hallie Rubenhold's THE FIVE. It was so deeply researched and written with such empathy. It's a great example of the kind of narrative nonfiction I love, though I also like more modern narrative nonfiction like THE SHORT AND TRAGIC LIFE OF ROBERT PEACE. #MSWL

All the queer mg and ya stories! I would love to find more f/f first crush or relationship stories that give me butterflies. But I'm also very much open to stories that don't include romance! Overall, I’d like to see more submissions from LGBTQ+ authors. #MSWL

#MSWL - in YA and MG, I love stories about how we're shaped by our families, and how we fit in with them (or not). I always love a good cry-worthy, heartfelt family moment in a book.

Re: ED I very specifically want a character who is already diagnosed and is not actively dying and is coping while they do Other Thing (preferably solving a mystery but ymmv). DO NOT send me your ED life or death books, I cannot. #mswl
