6) Something *new*

This is the worst, and I know this. Here's what I mean:
- unique worldbuilding
- new twists on familiar plot points & tropes
- plot twists that play on and upend expectations
- similar narratives from under-represented povs that materially change the underlying story

#mswl

Things that excite me right now:

1) stories featuring disability/chronically ill characters who succeed *because of* their strength/accommodations

2) contemp. romance with fantasy elements

3) "cozy" stories with high personal/local stakes

4) Adventure forward fantasy

5) hobby/niche romances

I spent the weekend at #LAConV talking about what unifies my list. My deals are spread across four genres, but they all have one main principle: stories of self discovery/determination/assertion. Strong focus on community, organizing and belonging as foils against oppression and authoritarianism.

I've got COVID, so I have time: let's talk about my #mswl as I prepare to open on September 14!

Didn't have great success with trying to limit queries to a particular genre, so instead I'll just ask for a variety of things and hope people keep to that and my wishlist.

"I would love to see more nonfiction about music—almost any genre, but especially blues and classic rock."
Elizabeth Guthrie #MSWL

Queries are now reopened the next few weeks! I’m excited to see what y’all send!

"Send me fungi horror or horror that’s very cerebral, gets under your skin—where something is very wrong, but you just can’t put your finger on it…"
Marina Green #MSWL

"Send me history, business, politics, current affairs, memoir."

I’m currently seeking a romance with magical realism ✨

Think The Dead Romantics vibes—romance at the center, with a little bit of magic woven in.

Drop me a mood board, elevator pitch, or agent guide below.

Show me what you’ve got! 🪄

"Send me inventive middle grade fantasy novels—especially if there’s an animal sidekick.”
mariavicente.com #MSWL

I am open to queries! I don’t know how long I’ll stay open, but here’s a little #mswl -

-Book club fiction that feels like someone turned Noah Kahan’s Downfall, Willing and Able, or Haircut into a novel

-Suspense with a horror edge, and bonus points if it has a romantic element

#writingcommunity

"I crave restrained yearning—that moment the room changes, the unbearable intimacy that builds through electric touch. It gets me every time!"
Gemma Paynter #MSWL

"Looking for nonfiction like Joseph McCormack's BRIEF: MAKE A BIGGER IMPACT BY SAYING LESS."
curtisrussell.bsky.social #MSWL

"Send me upmarket fiction that explores complicated interpersonal relationships, like THE WEDDING PEOPLE and SHARK HEART."
Rose Ferrao #MSWL

Friendly reminder that I will be officially closing to queries for the summer in a little under a week! The last day to get your submissions in is August 31st, so if you've been thinking about querying me now's the time! 📚

I will be opening to queries again on Sept 14 and I am so excited to check out some new books from #amquerying /#amwriting!

I’ll share some more specific things I’m excited about soon, but in the meantime my #MSWL is up to date (& is the same on my website)!
