In terms of crime and thriller, perhaps ironically, I want books in this space that feel fun! I'm slightly fatigued by the gloomier end of the spectrum within this genre...

On the contemporary side, I want a sharp, provocative story like LUSTER and a character study equal parts hilarious and heart-piercing, as in WRITERS AND LOVERS and STANDARD DEVIATION.

I'm also nostalgic for the epic love stories I read and watched on the screen growing up. Call me old-fashioned, but where are the 2023 equivalents of THE ENGLISH PATIENT, TITANIC, LOVE STORY, ATONEMENT? Make me cry, people!

I'm also craving literary suspense in the pre-internet era. Think: Christine Mangan, Emma Flint, Clare Fuller. Help me escape and keep me gripped!

20th century European glamour is always a draw, but I'd really, really love an historical novel set outside the periods and places we see over and over.

I'm still hungry for historical! On that front: I can't stop thinking about GREAT CIRCLE, which I waited a criminally long time to read. I'm desperate for an epic family novel told across timelines and generations.

The summer slowdown may be hiding this year, but I'm still on (a very aggressive) hunt for some page-turning submissions to read in the sunshine (come back, sun)! A #mswl 🧵:
