Psychological Horror, Mind-twisting Thriller, Millennial Cozy Mystery, Feminist Historical.

Niche #mswl dream projects: OUTERBANKS X GLASS ONION within small towns with a young cast of characters solving mysteries and riddles.

Mystery: I’m looking for feel-good mysteries that have a cozy vibe but also have some grit to them. Tightly wound mysteries with a fun hook! Also love a sense of community and interesting cast of characters who feel like real people.

Some niche #MSWL dream projects: CRYPTIDS. YA fiction with some mystery, thriller, maybe even horror. Give me the eery Appalachia stories or a chupacabra in Puerto Rico. If you have cryptids, I want to see it.

Still looking for a murder mystery set in space or with a touch of magic that is fun and inclusive! #MSWL

Okay, agent friends, it's #MSWL time! I'm an Associate Editor at Penguin Workshop, looking for middle grade and YA, as well as graphic novels in both categories. In Mystery/Suspense, I'm here for whodunits that are semi-cozy, like books by Richard Osman or Nita Prose. Also note the settings (retirement community, hotel), love the idea of a mystery in a monastery or botanical garden, where place is super visual. I <3 unexpected, underestimated sleuths. #MSWL

4. A murder mystery with no murder! A murderless mystery! Must be fair play, must have that Christie/Sayers feeling. Especially interested if it's set largely on the internet, this land of false identities, faked deaths, and character assassinations. Comp: the premise of THE VERIFIERS, YELLOWFACE

I’d also love to see more mysteries/adventures that involve puzzles/riddles/games. I’ve seen National Treasure and Jumani too many times, and love that sort of propulsive plot device. #MSWL

Right now, the largest % of queries I receive are for the fantasy genre. Which is great, I love fantasy, but I also want my list to be balanced. So I would *really* love to see more queries in other genres: romcom, horror, mystery, historical, magical realism, graphic novel, etc. #MSWL

- MG mysteries! Friends solving puzzles together!

- MG fantasy with immersive magic and problem solving like Spirited Away

- MG contemporary stories about building community (sports teams, clubs, craft circles, neighborhood gardens, etc!)

- YA mysteries that feel like Truly Devious or One of Us is Lying

- YA psychological thrillers like We Were Liars

- YA horror that is gently spooky and also very dark YA horror

Though I've been dipping my toes into younger children's books lately, the only children's genre I'm actively seeking out is YA. I love a funny contemporary YA novel, a twisty mystery, or a super dark horror novel. Basically, I'm looking for the same genres in adult and YA. #MSWL
