“I am on the hunt for non-fiction in MG. Show me glimpses of history that haven’t been taught to younger students before, collections of pieces, anthologies.” @ericsmithrocks #MSWL ericsmithrocks.com/mswl

For graphic novels both MG and YA, give me your messy, flawed, embarrassing, relatable coming-of-age. Think Roller Girl, Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me, Invisible Emmie, El Deafo, Stargazing, Check Please.

Editor
Again in MG, I’d love to find more grounded or just slightly speculative adventure stories. Spies, detectives, quest and adventure seekers. I’m a sucker for a good competition!

Editor
On the more fantastical side of MG, I love weird! Send me the stories that Henry Selick would turn into animated movies.

Editor
In MG, I love heart-tugging, honest voices that are either grounded or have a slight magic touch. Think Tae Keller, Karina Yan Glaser, Rebecca Stead.

When I was a kid, I had to change elementary schools four times across different countries and states. It was difficult for me to make friends and adjust every time. I’m sure a lot of children go through this, and it’s hard because they never have control in these situations.Often times parents have to move for work or family dynamics change in a way that requires them to be uprooted from familiar places. So I think it’d be great to see more coming-of-age MG stories about transient children, especially ones with diaspora backgrounds. #MSWL
