I love and devour everything by Simone St. James (aka crime / thrillers with a paranormal twist), so if you can comp to her even slightly, SOLD. I adore a good haunted house story with terrifying, angry ghosts. Loved MEXICAN GOTHIC by Silvia Moreno-Garcia recently. #MSWL

Flowing into September, here's what I would LOVE to see in my inbox: HORROR!!!! It's spooky time folks, and horror is probably my favorite genre. Let's see if we can tick that genre way up, especially from POC & queer writers. Ghosts are my absolute favorite. #MSWL

I’m also looking for some fun and light spooky MG vibes — like goosebumps meets ghost busters with a light adventure type theme? Super specific, I know. Any takers? 😂

#MSWL an adult psychological horror novel that features dark academia or a secret society at a collegeTo go off of this, I’m always looking for horror.
Give me your mushroom/spore horror (lovingly calling it sporror), your dark entities in the night, your “could be a ghost but could be a human haunting me.”, anything with a folkloric bent or set in the mountains #mswl
In Middle Grade, I'd love to see:
⚽️Fantasy inspired by myths, folklore, or legends
⚽️Historical that centers POC stories
⚽️Contemporary with an environmental bent
⚽️Horror with ghosts, creepy crawlies, and witches
⚽️Growing up in non-traditional settings
⚽️Earth-based sci-fi

I do love spookier/horror elements. Give me your ghosts, shadows, unexplainable phenomenon. Think THE WHISPERING DARK or WILDER GIRLS vibes.
I'm not against monster-hunter/vampire-slayer type stories, but I often tend not to be right for them.
🌟Evergreen themes: body positivity, self-love, coming-of-age, girls supporting girls, friendship and friendship breakups, sex positivity
🌟Ghosts, creepy crawlies, witches, and things that go bump in the night

give me Heathcliff, give me the lover that has so misunderstood what love is that they perform deeds that leave them bloody. Give me a love that has soured and make me yearn for it anyways. I want more hauntings, more ghost stories.
Give me Practical Magic, I'm begging you.

I would LOVE to see ghost stories (I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU by Kara A. Kennedy)! Note, though, that I’m not a fit for other paranormal characters, such as werewolves, vampires, zombies, faeries, etc.

Mystery/suspense – I really like creepy, gothic suspense like A FORGERY OF ROSES. And GALLANT—it feels like gothic, fantasy, & horror all in one! Anything that comps to CRIMSON PEAK is always on my list—creepy manor, period piece, lots of secrets, ghosts, some romance!

I love monsters of any kind in MG, and I’m interested in ghosts! For MG contemporary, I’m interested in all types of coming-of- age with authentic dialogue and lots of humor (always love Chad Lucas’s MG dialogue!).
