• the above, in such an explosive/expansive way transitioning back to real life feels impossible

If somebody wanted to write an Utena-style pseudo-contemporary diverse fantasy with sword-fighting, butch and femme queer girls, and colorful, floral imagery, and then have their agent sub it to me, I wouldn't be upset. I'm just sayin'. #MSWL

Ways fantasy can be dynamic without relying on Tolkien-inspired landscapes, creatures, or Chosen One tropes:
- Add a second power to the world that isn't humans. Be creative with this: perhaps the king must confer with the birds or frogs before charging to war.

You know what'd be cool to see more of in YA Fantasy? Mythologies no one has read before, like the hundreds of Native American tribes, or the 54 countries and thousands of tribes within Africa, or Haittian or Persian or Hittite. Something that can open our eyes and minds. #MSWL
