This vibe is a definite #mswl

It gives Maleficent/ Charlize Theron in Snow White and the Huntsman vibes and I am here for them. Give me a fantasy from the POV of an evil queen where the beautiful princess is just annoying and does not win the hearts of the people/ love interest.

And of course, I can’t stay away from gorgeously written MG fantasy. There’s a lot of it out there though, so I need to read a truly unusual concept to keep my interest. #MSWL

Upmarket speculative fiction. Grounded fantasy, magical realism, retellings of fairy/folk tales, horror. The majority of my favourite books of all time live in this genre. #MSWL

I especilly want: Fantasy romance! (Not paranormal romance - needs to be fantasy!) Near-future adult sci-fi. Epic fantasy based on non-European settings. Space opera with non-European/American influences!

I am always looking for adult and YA SFF! That includes pretty much any speculative fiction you can think of, although I prefer my sci-fi on the heavier side. (So not really near-future stuff that's "just" dystopian without awesome tech etc.)

Hey #WritingCommunity, I'm back online and my big romantic heart is searching for some new #Romantasy in my inbox. I like mine, fun, contemporary, maybe a little slice-of-life, but open to all sorts.

Looking at all the books I read, I definitely favoured romance and fantasy in 2022. This is partly because it’s two genres I love, and also because I actively chose books that I saw all over TikTok for ~research~ (god, isn’t working in publishing great??)

⭐️High-concept fantasy & contemporary fantasy that uses the conventions of its genre to critique, subvert, or illuminate a truth about our world (PLEASE send me the next Raybearer, Graceling, Witch King)
⭐️Fantasy/contemporary fantasy set in non-European-inspired settings

⭐️Contemporary fantasy set in non-European-inspired settings. Every Rick Riordan Presents book is a fantastic example, but note I am not acquiring for that imprint, and anything I do snag will have to feel distinct from what RRP has published.

Bureaucratic fantasy in the vein of The Goblin Emperor and The Traitor Baru Cormorant

Although my tastes are eclectic, certain things show up in lots of the books I work on:

Mysteries, murders and conspiracies

Fantasy with an agenda
Opposites attract friendships
Finding your true self

I need some escapism this year, and I found a lot of it in romance, fantasy, and intriguing horror novels in 2022. I’d love to see more of that in my inbox! #MSWL

… deep MG with a strong message; sweeping YA fantasy; women’s fiction with characters I’d kill for; banter-filled contemporary romance; and meaningful and well-written nonfiction for any age. They’ll fill in some gaps on my list! #MSWL
