All of which to say - I may do a *short* open subs window in January, but I will assess my workload this side of Christmas and make a decision then. I would be so interested if there was a Chinese journalist who wanted to do a deep-dive true crime and sociocultural analysis of this case. #MSWL

What’s the one unsolved mystery you most want answers to in your lifetime?I’m cheating bc it’s MY prompt.
1. What happened to Asha Degree?
2. What happened to the Beaumont Children?
3. Who the HELL was the Freeway Phantom?
I'm just saying, but all these unsolved stories are *exactly* the kind of deep-dive queries I want to see in my inbox. True crime, fiction based on these, whatever. It's my catnip. #MSWL

I wish I was that talented & I’m so passionate to represent them.
From Raymond Chandler, Agatha Christie, Sue Grafton to Karen Slaughter...if your writing is similar. Please send them my way ❤️ #MSWL

In crime fiction I'm still on the hunt for a great new regional British crime series. I love atmospheric, character driven, rich crime stories like Tana French. I love modern twists on classic detective fiction. I like locked room mysteries and cosy crime villages.

I judge all my submissions on three criteria - strength of concept (is it marketable? is it individual? is it interesting?), confidence of voice (you get a sense of the fluency of a voice from one page alone) and sustained compelling storytelling (which I need a full ms to judge)Right now I'm looking for contemporary fiction (both commercial and upmarket), historical fiction and crime fiction. I'm really keen to hear from diverse voices - BIPOC writers, LGBT writers, regional writers, disabled writers, working class writers, writers without a degree.
