I am eager for more high-concept sci-fi and fantasy with literary and upmarket feel. Examples of my favorites in this space include THE POWER by Naomi Alderman, THE AGE OF MIRACLES by Karen Thompson Walker, and THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin Morgenstern.
In Middle Grade, I'd love to see:
🧢Fantasy inspired by myths, folklore, or legends—especially if it's not European
🧢Historical that centers POC stories
🧢Contemporary with an environmental bent
🧢Horror with ghosts, creepy crawlies, and witches
🧢 Earth-based sci-fi

When they say love is eternal, they're talking about Joe and Nicky. pic.twitter.com/QIx9hMgazRI know I’m a year late to this party, but having *finally* seen OLD GUARD, all I want in 2022 is a queer SFF with MC’s that give me Joe and Nicky vibes #mswl

#MSWL for trans voices in speculative #A or #YA that comps @ryka_aoki's The Light from Uncommon Stars. I'm blown away not just by the voice, but by the originality of the story, the heart, the narrative scope. It's breathtaking. We need more trans joy in SFF. Send them my way.

A #MSWL mini thread since I'm just dipping a toe into the querying world. 🧵I love all fiction, with a soft spot for magical realism (think 100 YEARS, of course!). Lit fic, spec fic, and sci-fi are also high on my list. Fantasy like BLACK LEOPARD. Psych fiction that slowly unravels, like RED PILL. And not always, but sometimes, a great love story.

Overall I'm looking for mysteries (cozy or not), adult and ya romcoms, fantasy, thriller, sci fi and horror, but here are a few concepts and ideas that I'm specifically interested in lately:

“Luscious sci-fi and fantasy middle grade like The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill and Dragon Pearl by Yoon Ha Lee.” @agentvicente #MSWL mariavicente.com/representation

MG: This is the area I'd most like to expand!
YA: My first love! I'm always looking for YA that stands out.
Select adult SFF & horror.
Always open to author-illustrators & graphic novels. Plus @DanieleDHunter & I LOVE novels-in-verse! We tend toward lyrical writing generally.

"Sci-fi & fantasy novels. I love them. I read a ton of them. But they have to be accessible. What does that mean? It means that readers who don't traditionally pick up much sci-fi/fantasy, can pick up one of these novels & enjoy it.” @ericsmithrocks #MSWL ericsmithrocks.com/mswl
