I especilly want: Fantasy romance! (Not paranormal romance - needs to be fantasy!) Near-future adult sci-fi. Epic fantasy based on non-European settings. Space opera with non-European/American influences!

I can’t get enough of: family sagas, female friendships, edgy psychological suspense, closed-setting novels, anti-heroines, smart romances, comedy of manners, found family, genre-blend romcoms, and change-one-thing-in-our-world speculative fiction.

Looking at all the books I read, I definitely favoured romance and fantasy in 2022. This is partly because it’s two genres I love, and also because I actively chose books that I saw all over TikTok for ~research~ (god, isn’t working in publishing great??)

⭐️YA contemp romance with substance, especially centering characters with marginalized identities (think Heartstopper, Pumpkinheads)

⭐️Upmarket contemporary romance with substance, centering characters of traditionally marginalized identities (think Furia, Felix Ever After)

⭐️High-stakes competition with a subversive bent and meaningful consequences for the characters (What's the next Squid Game? Must be just as political, need not be just as gory.)
⭐️Epic romance embedded within a larger story (a la Raybearer)

*Own-voices* rep of characters with marginalized and intersectional identities in stories of adventure, romance, friendship, joy, and personal growth. Especially but not exclusively: disability/neurodivergence; queer/LGBTQ+; all BIPIC but esp Black American, Indigenous & Latinx

-jaw-dropping, twisty thrillers in both YA and adult fiction
-traditional mysteries with a fresh twist and a hint of romance but NOT romantic suspense

I need some escapism this year, and I found a lot of it in romance, fantasy, and intriguing horror novels in 2022. I’d love to see more of that in my inbox! #MSWL

I always ask for big emotions in MSs, and right now, I especially want joy. You can make it serious, but I want moments of levity too. Bring me laugh-out-loud humor, swoonworthy romance, delightful friendships, and lots of wonder. #MSWL

… deep MG with a strong message; sweeping YA fantasy; women’s fiction with characters I’d kill for; banter-filled contemporary romance; and meaningful and well-written nonfiction for any age. They’ll fill in some gaps on my list! #MSWL

For the new year, in addition to my forever #MSWL on the ArtHouse page, in 2023, I’m looking for some specifics!!:
- picture book nonfiction
- narrative nonfiction/memoirs (think MAID)
- middle grade National Treasure with non-founding father artifacts
- adult Black romance

5) Finally, do keep in mind my #mswl for queries. I really only accept romance & SFF, and so general contemporary fiction is not for me, even if it features the type of characters/relationships that I like.
